Did anyone else notice that when Shannon confronted Sawyer for the Insect repellent, he was reading the book Watership Down?

I wonder what significance lies in this?

If you haven't read the book, I would highly recommend it.

sunny,

Have you checked the thread on the Theories and Speculations forum? p073.ezboard.com/flostthe...=119.topic (http://p073.ezboard.com/flosttheunofficalforumfortheabcseriesfrm29.showMes sage?topicID=119.topic)

I believe that there's also some discussion on this in the thread for the White Rabbit episode in the General Discussion forum, here:
p073.ezboard.com/flostthe...=517.topic (http://p073.ezboard.com/flosttheunofficalforumfortheabcseriesfrm2.showMess age?topicID=517.topic)

Of course, if you read around a bit, you'll probably find several other places where this was touched upong.

Enjoy!

Let's try to keep this thread Sawyer-centric.

What do you think is the significance of this in terms of Sawyer's character? (Yeah, we'll keep the other threads so that we could find out its significance to the plot of the show.)

I have noticed this too, several times. It is my favorite book. I think it is significant because the storyline in the book is a parallel to the storyline on the show - a band of rag-tag strangers band together to overcome adversity and hardship as they journey to a new life in a new place. The passengers, like the rabbits in the book, have to rely on one another to stay alive. The first time I saw it, I thought, "damn, that's good." Especially since he is reading it, as they have made him out to be the bad guy so far. He is much smarter than most of the group, though. Another theme taken from the book is the fact that the rabbit characters are constantly using trickery to stay alive - much like he is.

blah blah blah

It's amazing how much that book relates to the Lost plotline.

Simply, amazing...

Why would a presumably healthy heterosexual guy chose to read Watership Down instead of the magazines [playboys] he salvaged from the dead passengers in the plane?

I agree that Sawyer is really smart, and I think they will kill Ethan using tricks they never expected.
