Alright, at first I thought this didn't have to do with any thing. But if you analyze the numbers purely by the way they sound, instead of what the numbers represents, it makes some sense.

They say numbers are the universal language, because we understand the concept the numbers represent. What if someone used the numbers because when sounded out they, were phonetically similar to a spell or something. Maybe you have to have the numbers written and the spoken at the same time in order to be cursed.

It was a novel idea, but my theory at least is limited to the numbers being spoken strictly in English. We haven't heard them spoken in another language yet. I wonder though weather the numbers do sound like words form another language. If they did that would be interesting.
