Is this something that just isn't going to happen? Last season's finale Charlie died because Desmond assured him that his vision saw Claire getting on a chopper. But now Des isn't on the island, and who knows if Claire is dead or alive. Seems this bit of information might be skipped over, what do you guys think?

I think Desmond was lying, he saw himself getting on the chopper but knew the only person Charlie would sacrifice himself for was Claire. He knew Charlie had to die, so he decided to use the pending doom to his advantage.

I was really expecting this to happen somehow, and I'm disappointed that it didn't. I see two ways for the writers to wriggle out of it:

1) Desmond saw a woman getting onto the chopper with Aaron and assumed it must be Claire. It's a bit hard to confuse blond Claire with Kate, but those flashes were awfully quick.

2) Charlie didn't die exactly right and this somehow caused it to be Kate who took Aaron onto the chopper instead of Claire. This would fit with the parachutist who was supposed to be Penny but turned out to be Naomi instead.

Either way, I'd love to see a scene where Desmond has to answer to a Charlie vision about this.

I'm of the opinion that Desmond lied. But if not, I think that the change happened because it didn't happen exactly as he saw in his flashes. I don't think Desmond was supposed to dive down there after him.

I don't think he lied. He knew Charlie would die, that's why he tried to take his place. He got bonked on the head though and wasnt able to take Charlie's place. If he were lying, I don't think he would have tried that.

I don't think Desmond lied at all, but the exact scenario in Desmond's vision did not take place exactly how he saw it starting with Charlie not taking the arrow through his neck. He kept saying it has to be exactly the same, but it wasn't. (Remember when Jin found the cable, and not Hurley?)

Desmond couldn't control, (although he did try) every little detail of his vision, and maybe it altered that possible outcome for Claire.
