Re: (Updated March 24th '09) Quick contests round up

(over) The husband and wife team behind Ilona Andrews successful Kate Daniels series is giving away a signed copy of the Magic Strikes, the third title, which comes out everywhere on March 31st. But hurry, this is a one day thing--read how you can enter here.

(over) Jordan Summers is holding a limited time giveaway in her blog for two ARCs of her upcoming Scarlet. This is the second title in her Dead World trilogy, a post apocaliptic urban fantasy work. The first title, Red--and indeed the whole series--is based on the question, What if Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf turned out to be the same person? Definitely worth checking the books out for the answer.

(over) Ms Summers is also doing a purge of her own library and offering two boxes full of books to US residents who comment here. Check out the list of great authors you get to try!

Viral promotion! Free short horror story, collaboration by Jack Kilborn and Blake Crouch

Via the amazing Smart Bitches Who Love Trashy Books, you can download the free novella "SERIAL" from Hachette Publishing. Description:
Quote:
Remember the twin golden rules of hitchhiking? # 1: Don’t go hitchhiking, because the driver who picks you up could be certifiably crazy.
# 2: Don’t pick up hitchhikers, because the traveler you pick up could be raving nutcase.
So what if, on some dark, isolated road, Crazy #1 offered a ride to Nutcase #2?
When two of the most twisted minds in the world of horror fiction face off, the result is SERIAL, a terrifying tale of hitchhiking gone terribly wrong. Like a deeply twisted version of an “After School Special,” SERIAL is the single most persuasive public service announcement on the hazards of free car rides.
Beyond a thrilling piece of horrifying suspense, SERIAL is also a groundbreaking experiment in literary collaboration. Jack Kilborn wrote the first part. Blake Crouch wrote the second. And they wrote the third together over email in 100-word exchanges, not aware of each other’s opening section. All bets were off, and may the best psycho win.
And you may want to check the extras in the story (a Q&A and some excerpts from their upcoming books--Kilborn’s Afraid and Crouch’s Abandon (which you can always pre-order through the forum's aStore with those handy linkies)

Kilborn's Afraid is out already, I read it a week or two ago.

It was good, could have used a better editor, some scenes went on WAY too long.
