Re: Star Trek: Discovery - CBS/All Access Sunday

I thought this was an excellent episode.

Don't think I breathed throughout the hour.

Capt. Lorca, is a war monger. This episode confirmed that fact. He in essence told Lt. Stamets, he needs to "man-up" and except his death for the greater good.

He even gave him an insensitive, you make this "jump" and we'll tour the Universe. Totally fed Staments' need for discovery.

I guess we can consider Lt. Tyler's captivity by the Klingons as one that's hard to understand. Maybe not!

If the captive was a woman, we'd definitely think she was raped by her captors. But, was it rape, or as Lt. Tyler told Michael, he was surviving?

I hope we don't lose Stamets.

Yeah, it was still cloaked. Plus, we've been told since the Klingons came into existence, they couldn't fire their weapons while cloaked.

What we were seeing was after the computations gave the location of the "Death-ship"

When Capt. Lorca asked Lt. Staments for one last "jump", I asssumed he was a dead man. I'm curious to know what he's become.

I'd also like to know where Discovery jumped to? Remember they mentioned, other "dimensions" within the Universe? I'm assuming that's what happened.

Now, I will say, I'm not looking forward to that. I remember ST:Voyager and especially 7of9.

Thanks for clearing that up Hodge, I was staring at the Klingon commander going "do something you damn fool, you're all about to die."
I am so wondering if we had a time jump, as Stamets kind of alluded to that in his explanation. What if they jumped forward to Next Gen time???
Stamets is going to the Gary Mitchell higher dimension.

This would definitely stand this series apart from ST:V. You know, I could definitely go along on this ride too.

That scene of the Klingon wreckage adds to your theory. They've reappeared as the war is over.

Spoiler: further speculation
I remember that in TOS the cloak had to come down before weapons could be fired, but i think i recall that a new technology eventually was developed (post-TOS iirc) that allowed them to create a breach in the cloak just large enough for the weapon to discharge through. Obviously i'm not sure i'm remembering that exactly right, but maybe it can jog the memory of one of you guys...

gift cards make great gifts both for shoppers who are lazy and/or have a lot of gifts to buy. They're also a shrewd choice if there are individuals in your life for whom it is difficult to shop. When bought through the astore, they also help support this site, which isn't self-sufficient and doesn't hold fund-raisers or any of that other crap.

Please consider doing at least some of your holiday shopping through our astore this year.

Just looked it up, and you were right.

Spoiler: Great memory

Chang's Bird-of-Prey
Chang's Bird-of-Prey was a prototype Klingon Bird-of-Prey commanded by General Chang in his efforts to discourage the potential peace talks between the Federation and the Klingon Empire. The vessel was equipped with a cloaking device that somehow allowed the vessel to fire its torpedoes while cloaked, an ability once considered impossible on other vessels, due to power constraints. Here's the complete article...

Re: Star Trek: Discovery - CBS/All Access Sunday

I watched the first ep several weeks ago. I liked it but I've outgrown Star Trek, at least as far as tv goes. The last several series I found to be unwatchable.

Ep 1 of Discovery was good enough that I knew I'd make time for ep 2 at some point, even though I still figured it was non-starter.

Well I just finished ep 2 and to my surprise, I'm hooked. So well done. The special effects were not subpar nor was the dialog or acting or direction. 'Not subpar' for a sci-fi series is a big deal.

Starting the next ep right now!
