Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! Just zoomed down to get my mom and bring her up to our house for the first time since January, so thankful for that. We're going non-traditional here, but trust me, there will be some good food.

Thankful for all of you, and gertie, I hope you are thankful for your new hip and pain killers.
Exactly all that

Glad your mom could be there!

I had two different kinds of mashed potatoes today.. straight whipped and buttery, and a more textured garlic and peppery version. 57 people this year.

Holy cow.

I had 8 and a baby.

I have to say, for our first time hosting, we did awesome. All the food was really good. My homemade mashed potatoes came out perfect Glad you all gave me the courage to try.

Turkey breasts were perfect too, and no fires today. Thumbs up.

Re: What's New/It's here! Happy Thanksgiving!

The number of people really isnít a huge deal. We can sit right at 35-40 with fold up tables in the garage. Another 10 around the formal dining room table.. another 10-15 in the living room. We could even hold a few more.

Everybody brings something.. some bring a couple of things. We use paper and disposable utensils... when everyone leaves they take their stuff with them.

So really itís just setting up some folding tables and chairs and cooking even less than what we would normally cook because the food is overflowing already.

Iíve got pics but whenever I load them from my phone to imgur, they are monstrous screen stretchers when I link them.

Re: What's New/It's here! Happy Thanksgiving!

No big surprises today here. Mom had a bunch of the prep work done already when we got there, Mrs Mo and i did most of the follow-through (we'd brought a bunch of prep too). The Stuffing was in the bird, which was already getting close to ready to come out of the oven when we got there. Two and a half of the kids made it (Yes, one in the oven). We skipped mashed potatoes this year but there was sweet potato casserole and lots of A+ stuffing, which went phenomenally with the homemade gravy. Green bean casserole, waldorf salad, cranberry sauces (jellied and otherwise). App trays had mixed olives, mixed deluxe unsalted nuts, mixed veggies; and some homemade dip that was great and i forgot to ask about.

A very nice day. I even got away with doing most of the dishes.

____

Happy Thanksgiving WN and all my friends and family wherever ye may be.

Re: What's New/It's here! Happy Thanksgiving!

We had super chill Thanksgiving at my dad's house. There were maybe 20 people, including my two kids, my sister's baby, my cousin's toddler.

My dad's rich DC-lawyer bff (they've literally been best friends since high school 50 years ago) brought some bottles of wine. That shit put my Franzia-box to shame in a big way, lol. He pressed me to take a bottle home with me, and I did not refuse. So I'm feeling pretty good right now. DAMN this tastes so good

It was cold, mid-40's, but we still bundled up and played basketball in the back yard and hung out outside some.

Appetizers:
--Fried oysters
--The aforementioned crab soup

And:
--Turkey (my sister does that)
--Country ham
--DUCK ( !!!!! SO GOOD !!!! )

--Mashed potatoes
--Green bean casserole
--Sweet potato casserole
--Peas
--Gravy
--Stuffing
--Homemade mac and cheese
--Corn pudding
--Deviled eggs (lol, no idea who brought those, but Jason was happy)
--And of course, my fresh yeast rolls (4 pans, they got demolished)

Dessert:
--Bread pudding
--Lemon pie
--My apple pie (good)
--My sister's weird apple-cranberry pie that she makes every year and NO ONE EATS
--Brownies for the kids

The apple-cranberry pie is a saga for the ages.
The first year she made it, Jason ate one slice out of politeness (he is Dean-Winchester-level pie aficionado), and a few other people tried it.
The second year, Jason managed half a slice, and no one else touched it.
Last year, literally no one ate it.

It's just bad. It's not good pie. But she's SO enthusiastic about it, and gets excited about making it.

But I want apple pie to be there, so this year I just made one. I didn't tell her about it until last night. Then I was kind of tipsy on FB so I just kind of dropped a "oh, yeah, made an apple pie while watching Agents of Shield" out there. She responds with "I made my apple cranberry pie..." and I responded to that with a picture of Agent Coulson captioned "Deal With It"

So, today, no one ate her pie, and mine got tore up. Because mine is actual basic apple pie, which satisfies people.

Bitch, stop baking.

She's not a bad cook at all. She made the turkey great, from all reports (I don't eat the turkey but everyone said it was good). She made the mashed potatoes, which were bangin (she used the white pepper). She makes good side dishes.
But she can't bake. I don't know what is going through her head with this pie.

Re: What's New/It's here! Happy Thanksgiving!

See... outside of Mo saying they skipped mashed potatoes which is like saying we had Christmas, but we skipped Santa, these are awesome tales of culinary glory.

Thanksgiving rocks... and totally kicks Halloweenís ass. Beats it like a drum that stole money from its momma.
