She asked “who?” and I said Katheryn Knight... author of “Duckgraze Harbor Pain, 1, 2, AND 3” and walked away flush with feelings of vindication.

That JUST happened. I’m pretty sure she hasn’t moved a step since I did it.

Good luck. I went yesterday and today, and both times it was surprisingly uncrowded. It's pouring here, so maybe people are waiting until the rain stops. Or they are still working. In any event, I've shopped on Saturday afternoons when it has been more crowded.
Good luck, vonne!

I'm going to start the barley casserole just so I can have the smell of onions sauteing in butter fill the house.

Re: What's New/Countdown to Thanksgiving

So I am curious when/how everyone cooks good old Tom.
My Mom will make her magic homemade stuffing and bring it over and I will stuff the bird, season it up and put it in around midnight at 200*. It's ready when I get up!
If you want a killer baste try Kahlua. Mix it up with Sea Salt, 5 Peppercorn medley and garlic and baste it all over the Turkey. About halfway done, do it again! I think you will like. Can't wait till tomorrow!!!

My mom does ours really simply. She cuts small incisions into the skin and inserts pats of butter in random spots all over the bird. The only external seasonings are salt & pepper. She stuffs it w/ oranges, rosemary & onions. We do our cornbread "stuffing" separately casserole style w/ the traditional onion & celery and add pine nuts and craisins.

Whoa! What flavor does the Kahlua impart? Some sweetness I suppose. Sounds very interesting.

Tawaret, I'm doing it very simple as well as your mom, but I'm adding slivered almonds to my stuffing.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all here at What's New.

Re: What's New/Countdown to Thanksgiving

I’ve been invited to dinner on Sunday by some American friends to celebrate Thanksgiving with them. As a gift I was just gonna take some booze but I was wondering if there is a traditional or customary gift that would be better?? They’re close friends so it doesn’t have to be a formal or politically correct gift as such.

I’ll take some booze anyway, but your helpful ideas/suggestions will be welcomed.

And happy Thanksgiving to everyone for tomorrow.

The best thing about Thanksgiving is that there are usually no gifts involved, so whatever you'd take as a hostess gift would be lovely. Booze is always good. If you wanted to be creative, you could stop by a store today or after Thanksgiving and pick up something cute and on sale like Thanksgiving dish towels. They wouldn't use them this year, but they'd remember you when they use them other years. (However, going shopping the weekend after Thanksgiving is kind of a terrible idea... )

Yep, booze is appropriate/traditional thing to bring and nothing more needed.
