Re: Survivor 34: Game Changers

That's not exactly what I meant..

I'm talking about not judging an individual player based on a bad season.

You are talking about how a bad individual can ruin a good season.

That's sort of two different things we're talking.

Re: Survivor 34: Game Changers

I read your line about Jeff judging the quality of the season and turning that onto the winner wrong. I think I read it reversed...

I think I get what you're saying. It's the same way Earl was a decent strategical winner, but that entire season sucked. I don't judge Earl because he surrounded himself with goats, the cast was generally bad. I don't even remember the name or the number of it LMAO. The show got really bad there for a few seasons in the teens. Survivor China really saved it for me. Loved the cast and the winner, but would have been OK with Courtney too, lol. Such meta contestants.

Survivor 34: Game Changers

Fiji... Yau-Man.. DreamZ or whatever his name was.

Earl took some hanger on that did nothing and Dreamz who stole the truck from Yau-Man. Total goats, both.

Lisi Linares... Michelle Yi, Mookie, Boo..

Pretty much all forgettable.

The most memorable was the gal who before it even started realized how bad the season would be and had a panic attack so bad they had to medevac her out.

Dreamz is how I see so many of the younger generation...entitled, overly enthused about themselves, and a 'me mindset' that doesn't get the concepts of honor and humility.

Re: Survivor 34: Game Changers

I have read over and over again how Probst always favors males over females, no matter what the circumstances. But, there are show runners who have apparently, too.

However, I remember early days when everyone had to stand on the same size shim - whatever it's called - and of course the smaller foot would last longer. They then made it more proportional to a person's foot.

Dad was a clodhopper and so am I. (That was my nickname in elementary school.) Dad, like Zaphod, was 6'1", but he was a size 16 foot! He would not have lasted a mini-nanosecond on those early shimmy things.

They ought to do the same favor for females. If she is 120 pounds, why should she carry the same weight as a 180 pound male?

As far as favorite challenges, I don't know, but am very glad the gross-out eating is over. And I hope forever.

I like the puzzles, but yes, warty, the early struggles to get to the puzzle are so often nullified. But I am not against them.

It shows different strengths of teams. Who's good at what? What are they best at? So, I think it helps teams to figure this out. Who does what.

And then, of course, someone has to make the decision, most often. Then hysterically the team leader is voted out for being "too strong" or some BS.

Just musing here.

Re: Survivor 34: Game Changers

Oh and might I add, I'm pretty sure the entire cast that year was recruited instead of chosen from applicants.
I'm pretty sure that Mattie's mentioned dark period of bad seasons was during their recruiting phase when the producers thought they could make better shows by recruiting archetypes and personalities instead of letting the show naturally play out with random folk.
I remember there were players who had never even watched the show. They had people there whose talent agents put them there thinking it would be a great way to start a modeling or acting career. What a terrible idea. The Mactors and other "recruits" nearly killed the entire Survivor franchise.

Re: Survivor 34: Game Changers

agreed, no stunt casting. ruins any integrity one feels for the show. ditto for amazing race.

to follow - i love enthusiasm for one's self, as long as it's tempered with humility. this "i'm all that and i will tell the world and they must love me' tude is for the birds IMO, and immediately puts you in negative camp. boston rob, good example. DUDE loves himself, BUT he doesn't go over the top shoving it in your face - he proves it in the actions he does. ditto James - awesome presence, knows he's a good competitor, not in your face with it. Russell - king of 'in your face' attitude, and immediately disliked by me as a snake. Ozzy actually tread the line for me, he was mostly ok but sometimes thought of himself a bit much.

Re: Survivor 34: Game Changers

I will always love Boston Rob. And will always hate Russell.

You guys watched and remember a lot more than me. I quit for a few seasons. But am back, so I can't remark on some things.

Season One - hardest and greatest. Look at that cast! Not a model among them, and the age ranges! Goodness, no water provided, having to really search for food, no idea what is going on or how to cope.

And yes, I've also read that Probst and Co. look for female contestants that could pass for models. It makes me want to puke.

Re: Survivor 34: Game Changers

lol gert - i only remember as i'm doing a rewatch of all the prior seasons, otherwise yep i would not rememeber 80% of the people.

Boston Rob - is the epitome of Boston guy for me. i love the boston attitude of we're better than you, but also the first to take themselves out at the knees when they argue with themselves. they can argue and demean, but there doesn't seem to be any hatred behind it, if that makes sense. eta...watch "perfect storm" if you want a nice bahston movie...good drama, action, and bahston tood.

and man, just love the accent. and the food. and the historical sites.

sick of 'posturing' as admirable. no, posturing is self aggrandizing... do it all you want, it does NOT mean you are quality by any means.

Re: Survivor 34: Game Changers

The worst challenge imo is the individual immunity challenge where everyone has a clay statue and three ropes holding up a hammer. They do rounds of trivia, and each round the winners get to chop a rope. If you *need* immunity to hang around, you have ZERO chance. I just hate that one. They do it, because it reveals the pecking order. But, it can be so unfair to the person that knows he/she has to win immunity to survive TC.
