Re: Mental Health (ASD, Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar, etc.)

Umm, the shrooms probably didn't help with your clinical anxiety because you took large doses. Studies are being conducted on MICROdosing. A steady, reliable dosage given by professionals in an extremely low amount. And then they have a therapist there (a real one) guiding you through your emotions. I think I also read that they do maybe *one* breakthrough dosage which is really high. But yeah. It isn't about tripping and staring at the grapes in the produce section.

Recreational usage =/= clinical

I am a marijuana connoisseur. I have a med card in two states and have smoked over 125 strains (I made a list once of all the names I could remember purchasing, lol) of all various genetics and growers.

IMO - marijuana can only cause anxiety when THC is in the absence of CBD. My favorite, most creative and enjoyable highs have always come from high CBS strains, or at least containing some.

Unfortunately what I have seen in the dispensary world is a push towards THC and THC content only. Strains known to contain CBD do not sell well, people think they won't ‘get high’ from it because of the reports of Charlotte’s Web. They're wrong, and I can usually find the CBD strains on sale or discount. Win for me, lol.

There is a synergistic effect between CBD and THC and when you crossbreed to try and eliminate it, IMO that's what can give some people anxiety.

Also the terpenes in pot are super powerful. I've always noticed the more citrusy strains or pine-smelling strains are the best for reducing anxiety. Limonene and pinene would be the two terpenes responsible there.

Re: Mental Health (ASD, Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar, etc.)

If i recall correctly from a mid 90's issue of High Times, there are at least a few hundred different chemicals in most commercially grown marijuana. Back then a THC content of 6-7% was considered relatively high, and it would also make it the dominant cannabinoid chemical in that sample. The article i read stated that pure THC didn't produce a strong euphoria; that it was the synergy of the different chemicals together that created the various types of highs.

Obviously part of the push for higher tetrahydrocannabinoid contents is from public perception that that's the chemical that produces euphoria, which as you pointed out, is a little skewed. But another big part of the push for higher THC percentages comes from the medical use community, as THC is the cannabinoid that's shown the best results for pain management.

When bought through the astore, they also help support this site, which isn't self-sufficient and doesn't hold fund-raisers or any of that other crap.

Please consider doing at least some of your holiday shopping through our astore this year.

Re: Mental Health (ASD, Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar, etc.)

This week between all the members of the family we saw five different mental health professionals. I mailed seventy-six pages of supporting documents to the Dept. of Mental Health, but I'm pretty darn sure we'll be turned down. We have not had any "wow, this med has really made a difference" moments, so we're weaning off the meds to go back to baseline and see where we are. I don't know that it's very encouraging when our prescribing physician says, "Maybe meds just aren't going to work for your kid." So, we just keep working on behavioral strategies, and then we'll revisit meds in a few months.
But he made it through a week of regular camp without a hitch (at least none that they told me about), so that's a good thing.

You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers, Brdmom.
Hopefully as he ages his brain will develop and change for the better and you can begin to get on the right track of medical help.

Re: Mental Health (ASD, Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar, etc.)

Happy to hear your child is coming off of the mental flux of pharma kool-aid, brdmom. I actually believe it's an encouraging thought that the meds may not 'work' for your kid. I know I have really firm opinions and sometimes, maybe most times, can come off as very off-putting, but that's usually because I've had crazy experiences and convictions follow from that. Therapy and experience is all your kid will most likely need, and time, time, time. Meditation would probably help tremendously too.
