They made Freddie Lounds a woman, which was unexpected.

And yes, I like how they have carried on with the storyline from the pilot, with the girl in the coma.

Mr. bury-alive-with-mushrooms, kind of blah. But the scenes with Lecter and Will talking are straight fire. Good times.
Lecter talks about "God" dropping the roof of a church onto 34 people (nod to the original story).
Will: "Did that make God feel good?"
Lecter: "It made him feel powerful."

Fishburne is growing on me in the role.

Still in wait-and-see where the story goes.

Ep 3 done.

Okay, I'm totally warmed to Mittelsen as Lecter. I think seeing him in action this episode, with setting up his copycat-victim's brother, and then manipulating the daughter (Abigail?), is what has sold me. He just can't stop playing with his food (in the metaphorical sense, although possibly also literally). He did his copycat crime, which Will says will be nearly impossible to figure out because "he'll never kill this way again," but he just can't leave it alone, he has to play with it and spin it out. FUN.

And yeah, I'm really happy that this is an arc instead of serial-killer-of-the-week.

Lounds is SUPER ANNOYING, like more annoying than in the books.

Girl-Shrink really reminds me of a brunette Kristen Bell.

I can't decide whether or not Abigail was involved in her dad's crimes. I loved her little "Let's re-enact! You be mom, and you be dad, and you [Lecter] be the man on the phone." She's definitely pretty clever. I'm interested.

That phone call, as I remember it, was downright chilling.

Spoiler: notes
gift cards make great gifts both for shoppers who are lazy and/or have a lot of gifts to buy. They're also a shrewd choice if there are individuals in your life for whom it is difficult to shop. When bought through the astore, they also help support this site, which isn't self-sufficient and doesn't hold fund-raisers or any of that other crap.

Please consider doing at least some of your holiday shopping through our astore this year.

Re: Vonne Watches Television - Hannibal (post 945)

Did episode 4 and 5 last night.

Best parts for me are when Lecter talks to anyone, and when Will does his re-enactments. I do really like the directing.

Zoe from Firefly is Bella. So that's cool.

That's all I can think of right now, because I watched them last night, lol.

Oh-- some of it is fun being "spoiled" by having read Red Dragon / SotL / Hannibal. Like I knew the Bella issue was cancer because we see her die of that in the second book, etc.

Oh-- and BLOOD EAGLE Yay Vikings tie-in

Episode 6, aka "Silence of the Lambs reboot."

So the writers didn't have to do a whole lot of writing with this one, just lift identical dialogue from Silence of the Lambs, but with different people in the roles.
In part that's cool, but in another it was kind of irritating.

Lecter also seems to take a LOT of risks. Which, we know that eventually he gets caught, which is why.

What is fun is how his games suit the manipulations he's currently working on. He "brings back" the Clarice-Starling-fill-in who died, haunting Crawford with her, to dig into Crawford's issues with his wife's impending death.
Fun.

Episode 7--

Cooking classes.

We come across someone disguising organ theft with Lecter's methods. Lecter jumps in to save the dying victim and shows his medical/surgical skill while doing so. I think that will stick with Will. Maybe the first hint Will gets as to who is doing it.

What I wonder if how this can be stretched out into so many seasons. Will has to figure it out eventually, but if he's sitting there constantly talking to Lecter and watching it, how will it take him so long to put the pieces together?

As far as Silence of the Lambs goes, the rights to that and specifically Clarice resided with Lifetime I believe which wanted to make a clarice series Brian Fuller was considering eventually trying to get them to let him adapt the story without Clarice.

Fuller also said he'd approve of Mikkelson being on that show but only his voice.

Just keep watching I had the same question myself.

The Will/Hannibal dynamic only gets better over time

Yep. It's a uniquely slow burn full throttle experience which fully exploits the relationships between the main characters.
