Re: NBA/WNBA Thread

Things went straight to full-out ugly-ass beatdown.

Most points ever allowed in a postseason game by any team coached by Popavich.

I didn't watch a whole lot of the game, Mrs. Mo and i channel-surfed.

I think this year's Celtics are playing better ball than last year's Raptors. But i agree i don't see it going to 7.

I'm getting hyped too early to see GSW v CC III; any other Finals matchup will be a disappointment now. The Dubs won, the Cavs re-loaded; the Cavs won, the Dubs go grab an MVP. Assuming everybody stays healthy, this will be the matchup we've all been waiting for all year. It reminds me of the Bird/Magic grudge rivalry in a way - it feels destined to be another epic showdown.

I want to preference my comments with some vital info.

As the majority of you know, casa de Hodgepodge is in SoCal. Liz, lives in NoCal. I had to call and ask her to keep the noise down last night.

You know Mr Mo, I think the size of the Wizards backcourt would be a better matchup. At 5'9", IT is a hindrance on Defense.

You're probably right, BA. But, if the Celtics don't win tonight, they may not see a game 5 back in Boston.

That's an understatement! 136-100!

The Spurs looked like they gave up on the bus ride to the arena. Glad Pop gave the whole team a tongue lashing, especially Aldridge. He was lethargic and looked like he didn't want to be there.

I couldn't agree more.

All of the media pundits are saying this would be bad for the League. Like you, any other matchup would be bad for the League.

Re: NBA/WNBA Thread

What, the pundits say that because Cleveland and Frisco aren't big markets? Or because seeing the same two teams in the Finals three years ago means there's no parity in the Association? Those two points would kinda seem to contradict each other, don't ya think?

Furthermore, the players involved kind of make up for the smallish markets. LBJ alone has a national following.

Eh, if everybody stays healthy and the Cavs and Dubs mix it up for the third straight Finals, i bet the ratings will tell the real story, especially if it goes to seven games again.

Furthermore, the NBA has been a league of haves and have-nots for as long as i can remember. For all i know, it was probably like that even before the merger. But things have been changing. Golden State and the Clippers were bottom feeders were decades, now they're perennial contenders. The Lakers just finished the season with the worst record in the NBA. San Antonio has arguably had the best franchise over the last 15 years, and that's not exactly a big market. At this point, any franchise can rise and shine, and no franchise can stay at the top forever. Remember when the Raptors had one of the best Forwards in the game, Chris Bosh, and they sucked? Just last year, they went to the EC Finals and even won a couple games.

The pundits can't seem to understand that they can have it both ways. Parity is good for the NBA, and big markets winning championships is good for the NBA. Both aren't really likely to happen at exactly the same time, but hopefully the Knicks can do something for the best big market in sports some time soon.

Re: NBA/WNBA Thread

a little life from the Celtics in the third quarter. now down by 17. let's see what happens in the fourth.

117 to 104. benches at the end. game 2 should be tighter.

Re: NBA/WNBA Thread

Damn BA! You guys mad with the people in the Boston area? That was a complete annihilation. The final score was not indicative of how badly the Celtics looked, and how dominate the Cavs played.

Here's something one of the announcers mentioned, and as far as I can remember, it's the first time I've consciously acknowledged the fact. The Boston Celtics never led in that game. Just damn!

Oh, and with the win, the Cavs have a great chance of sweeping the Celtics. You heard it here first.

Re: NBA/WNBA Thread

If the Cavs win game 2 it'll be a sweep. Boston must win game 2 to have any hope whatsoever. I think the Cavs will actually win game 2. But I don't think the lead will be the 20 plus point dominance of much of game 1.

Re: NBA/WNBA Thread

OMFG! I was totally wrong. 72 to 31 at the half! I was away and didn't watch. So this is a shock! How 72 points? How?

130-84. And it wasn't even that close. Cavs brought in the bench before the end of the 3rd. This series is done.

Re: NBA/WNBA Thread

It seriously looks like both teams might well enter The Finals without either having lost a single postseason game this year.

I wonder if that's ever happened before.

Mr Mo, looks more like a "happening" with the news today.

In tonight's (05/20/17) GSW vs. Spurs - Leonard has been ruled out.

In tomorrow's (05/21/17) Cavs vs. Celtics - IT (Isaiah Thomas) has been ruled out for the rest of the playoffs due to a hip injury.
