The Books Will Not... (GoT/ASoIaF reverse prediction thread, book spoilers)

As we get closer to the end of the Game of Thrones series, it feels like the TV series is diverging more and more from what the books will end up doing. The idea behind this thread, is to try to predict which things from the TV show that the books WILL NOT end up doing.

This thread will contain spoilers from books already released, but should not contain any show spoilers, or spoilers from ASoIaF books not yet released.

Each post starts, "The books will not..." followed by something from the show you don't think the books will do, followed by your evidence from the books as to why you think the way you do.

For example:

The books will not... have Cersei become allies with the Iron Bank of Braavos.

In the show, Cersei pressures the Iron Bank into an alliance by arguing that Dany will not take kindly to their participation in the slave trade. In the books, Braavos is a free city founded by former slaves, slavery is forbidden there, and the Bravosi tend to be strongly opposed to slavery. Thus, the Iron Bank being involved in slavery is strictly a TV invention.

Pretty much.

This is the only thing that's ever brought Martin the fame he's always craved. He is in NO rush to see it end. For chrissakes he recently tried to revive Wild Cards, a series that no major publisher has been willing to touch for 15 years, and for good reason too - It was a great series for most of the first 10 or 11 books, but enough was enough for we the readers, and the fact that he wouldn't let it go gave me serious reservations about trying anything else by him. It's nearly as insane as trying to read the Gor series.

I don't think that's it at all. His fame is from the TV show, not the novels. If he was able to finish the books in a timely fashion, he could have dedicated more time to the TV show, it's possible spinoffs and doing interviews.

I think he did what Robert Jordan did. He fell in love with setting things up and adding character after character. He's written himself into a corner he's not motivated to get out of. He probably also feels even more pressure to deliver high quality novels now that so many more are paying attention. His last two novels weren't well received, so I don't know if that weighs on him as well.

Stephen King also lost motivation to continue the Dark Tower series, for reasons I'm unaware. I only know that his near death gave him the motivation he needed.

He may simply be uninspired or unable to continue writing the story at a decent pace.

Re: The Books Will Not... (GoT/ASoIaF reverse prediction thread, book spoilers)

I'm not a GoT book reader, just a strictly casual TV viewer who happens to enjoy the show. Something else I enjoy...conspiracy theories.

I 1,000% disbelieve everything GRRM has said in regards to not having struck a deal with HBO regarding the book schedule releases. I believe he's held it back intentionally because HBO paid him BIG bucks...like double-digit millions probably, to hold back until the show can air this season.

I think HBO is afraid that now that viewership has reached an all-time high, they don't want the "ending" leaked through people reading ahead to the finish of the book.

Basically I think GRRM was paid to fill the showrunners in on what happens to the major players, details on major plotlines etc. (as seen in Hodor's death, reaching the small screen before he ever put it in print)

I disagree with that Mattie..

I think he wrote himself into a corner and struggled figuring out how to contain it and wrap it up instead of having it constantly expand like an out of control nuclear reaction.

I don't think the book was ever a threat to reveal an end before the TV show.

Getting back to the thread topic:
