LOST Theories So you think you know some secrets of the island? Maybe you can explain everything. If it's original and you can back it up, we'd love to hear it.

Thanks Tage! I find this the most well-presented, coherent and engaging of the Tesla threads, so I hope that others contribute here. I think your theory is one of the most reasonable out there; I am quite convinced that at least some of it will end up applying to the island itself, if not the Dharma initiative.

The button must now be pushed every 108 minutes to 'vent' pent-up electromagnetic energy, otherwise the machine/power plant will overload and cause another explosion.
I don't understand why Dharma just couldn't turn the machine off, thereby avoiding any build up needed to "vent".

Well, I was just purely speculating at that point. What struck me about the whole "Locke-Hitting-the-Button-Late" event in 2-14 was that you could distinctly hear a machine powering up, and then when he hit the button, you could hear a muffled 'boom' and then hear the machine powering down.

But I agree, that area of my post needs a bit more work, and I think I'll need to get a lot more research done on capacitors, power generators, Wardenclyffe Tower, etc... So I'll probably wait for my school term to end before I tackle an updated version.

I'll appreciate any speculation thrown my way!

School, schmool, Tage. You think we're all here cause it's fun!?! Get to work. Kidding. I hadn't really noticed too much emphasis on threes, since the show's non-"numbers" patterns (as Jaystao mentioned) focus on dualities. I doubt it's connected, but there seem to be several three-person expeditions, however, aside from the current Sayid-AL-Charlie grouping.

BC, I was KIDDING.

actually I find it very vague.

I have narrowed it all down though. and it IS very confusing.

but it is not my fault.

TPTB choose these numbers to be quantum numbers for a reason.

The only other '3' I can think of is the airplane having split in three parts, so I don't think it's very consequential.

Regardless of being able to turn it off or not, they certainly could automate entering the code sequence. I've yet to see any remotely satisfying explanation for manually pushing the button other than the Skinner Box theory.

Without knowing the particulars about the 'incident', it's hard to know at this stage what to believe. It's not yet clear to me if the incident being referred to in the orientation film actually happened inside Swan Station.

It would certainly be easy enough to automate entering the code - certainly enough just to push a button for a skinner box. So why a code? Why that particular code, engraved on the outside of the escape hatch and formerly broadcasted by a transmitter near the Black Rock?

Does something in one of Telsa's projects involve these particular numbers, in this particular sequence?

Re: Tesla, Electromagnetism, and Swan Station v1.0

That was a great post, Tage! Definitely, the best Tesla thread ever.

Can someone tell me if the idea of the Earth/Island as tuner could have implications regarding the radio tower broadcast/Sayid being able to pick up a radio station on the short wave? Or even implications for the vile vortex idea?
