Jim and Andy - 8/10

The behind the scenes craziness of of method actor. It gets really bizarre once Kauffmans relatives get pulled into this whole thing. I think Carrey has now lost his mind and getting so deep into this role may have played a part. He literally thought he was channeling Kaufman. Bizarre

I agree with the slowness of the plot/action. On first viewing I'm really disappointed by this movie considering how glowing the critics reviews were, and people's generally. It's a long movie too, which only exacerbates the slowness. My wife and 2 (of my) sons were bored with it and I was surprised they watched til the end.

I felt similarly after watching many other movies, such as The Revenant & The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and completely changed my opinion on second watch. I really hope the same applies here, though I'm somewhat doubtful.

I'll score after my second watch.

Johnny English Reborn

6.5 out of 10

OMG, Mr Bean can talk. I was desparate for something to watch and choose this this comedy. It was alright. I was quite surprised that Mr Bean could actually look handsome, and he did at some points in this show.
Easy plot, stupid jokes, LOL moments enough.

I still need to watch the latest bladerunner, but I felt the Revenant lacked in story and dialogue. I'm not sure I'll even try to watch it a second time.

The Ritual: on Netflix. decent horror fare, not a fan of the ending but that's just me. 6/10.

The Girl With All the Gifts: I do not remember advertising for this at all, that's a huge shame. This is a GREAT flick (well for dystopia zombie type flick.) Not smashing effects or anything, but the story is so good it didn't need any bells/whistles. 9/10.

Re: Rate The Last Movie You Watched

Thanks, Zaphod. I hadn't even known they'd made a movie out of this. I'm a big fan of Mike Carey (aka M.R. Carey), who wrote the original novel. Actually, I owe you a thanks for Last Train to Busan. I watched the trailer and was scared out of my mind, so of course my husband said we had to see it, and it was really good!

Predestination is quite clever, I thought. Triangle was pretty good but the thematically similar Coherence is much better.

I liked the new Blade Runner a lot. Yes, it's too long, and yes, sort of on the slow side but there's so much going on that I'm not sure how it could have been condensed and still had the impact. It's one of those movies where you need to be able to think a bit while you're watching it, not just afterwards. That's a difficult thing to pull off, and I thought it had the right combination of emotional heft and distancing to do it.

Plus just before the Nolan film, Their Finest came out, about a WWII propaganda team making a film about Dunkirk! It was maybe not as great as the Nolan, and far smaller in scope, but absolutely delightful. And best Bill Nighy performance yet!

Okay, most recent: Beatriz at Dinner, 9 out of 10, which surprised me. I was expecting a heavy handed political statement, not "magical realism." And certainly not expecting such a great job by Salma Hayek, or how many layers John Lithgow would put into a character that could have been just a rich jerk.
