I kind'a got that feeling too.

Was it her intention to deceive Jack about her relationship with the leader of the band, or did she truly just forget or didn't think it was a big thing?

Plus, him dying heroically rather than as a drunk who burned himself to death by accident fits the narrative way better. My guess is that something Kate did caused the fire as well. She has major guilt over Jack's death still.
And I saw this in a completely different way.

I immediately thought he fell asleep, drunk, with a cigarette and killed himself along with burning down the house.

That little thing Rebecca told Randall was so touching.

So, Randall got the gene, so to say, from Jack about making decisions about what he wants without considering anyone else.

What is Randall trying to duplicate with this adoption anyway? His own experience?

Remembering last seasons finale. Jack came to the bar where the band was playing. This was right after the lead guy in the band tried to kiss Rebecca.

Rebecca asked Jack to move out because she need space. Not because she was interested in the other guy, but...

Was Rebecca mad with Jack because he didn't trust her, or because the other guy tried to kiss her proving Jack right?

Or, was it something else?

I'll be back later with my comments from the 2nd season premiere.
Rebecca was mad at Jack because he totally dissed her dream - "You are just a 40 year old singing cover songs. That's not a dream, it's ridiculous." (or something like that) And remember how he could barely say good-bye to her. He really acted like a spoiled baby when she was leaving.
I don't think she mentioned that she dated the band guy because it was totally unimportant to her and long ago. She just saw this as an opportunity to sing. Remember how appalled she was when he tried to kiss her? She had no interest in him at all.

You know Brdmom, I remember something Beth told Randall about adopting this baby. It relates to what Jack felt about adopting Randall in the first place.

Both Jack and Randall can only see what "they" see. And, they expect everyone else to agree, even without them being asked.

Jack couldn't understand why Rebecca would want "any" life outside their family. So yeah, he was mad when she wanted something for herself.

Just like with Randall. He started the adoption procedures without asking Beth if she was on board. He just assumed, what he wanted was what she wanted.

I have to agree, KevinNU7.

Although, I'm still enjoying the series very much. And, there's always a reason to look for a Kleenex.

ETA: In this last episode, I'm trying to figure out why Kate was so crossed with her mother. I thought she was very supportive when she learned about the gig. Then, she attended said gig with Toby, which shows support.

Now I will say, when Rebbeca told her after the "set", that she'll get better as time goes on, was a little "cut", but that's the only thing I thought was questionable. What do you think?

And, I'm surprised Randall hasn't gone stark raving mad. Everything has to perfect as far as he's concern. I'd also be curious to know how many times has Beth threaten to leave him on account of his obsessions?

Kate's relationship with her mother really illustrated to me why it just sucks being a parent. So many times you can't win for losing. So there's Rebecca making Kate a special dress to sing in, and it fits and it Kate loves it (I was expecting it to be too small...), but then she hears her mom singing "her" song in the shower and she is utterly defeated. Poor Rebecca has no idea that she did anything, and truthfully, who is going to fault her for singing in the shower??
Kate - time to get a good therapist to help you work through your mom issues.
And here's a fun article in Glamour magazine about this very topic.

An okay episode, but even an okay This Is Us is great tv.

You have no idea how many times I found the girls not talking to their mother. "She doesn't understand!" I used to ask, 'what does that mean?' And I never got an answer.

I used to ask TPTB (Mrs. Hodgepodge) what was going on, and inevitably, they wanted to do something that was totally wrong.

Oh, and for the link.

As I said above, I'm always asking for a Kleenex.

Re: This Is Us - NBC Tuesday

Good episode. I especially loved the Sly scenes. Time for Kevin to finally grow up and face his sadness from the past. And Kate too. Randall handled Deja like a champ.
