Re: Would you ever sponsor me?

Take the "Kickstarter" model, every successful project has a plan of action, goals, etc. I've donated to some projects and the only one's I look at are if they have a clear plan and some kind of experience.

Re: Would you ever sponsor me?

Hey you dolts, (not Warty), who seem to lack reading comprehension, the details (if it even became necessary to try and be sponsored in the first place) would be set in stone BEFORE I would even consider setting up a funding page. And since I'm not (as of now), I wouldn't feel comfortable sharing the details that are in my head more than I already have. Obviously I'm just trying to tie my hobby goals, which is becoming a legit amateur photographer, to a life goal, which is paying something back and helping others for a cause I feel is overlooked.

And in regards to Warty, in a way the book did say that, I guess. It was more in-depth and not in so many words, though. But yeah, essentially the theory is that just sharing your "crazy" goals with others, can ultimately sour your motivation. All types of varying reactions could result which make you reconsider or change your initial plans to fit others expectations etc.

And trust that if the details were released, that the ultimate cynic and Captain Smarmypants scotpgot would be quieted and it'd be crystal clear that the money would go to continue funding the project and not anything else.

When bought through the astore, they also help support this site, which isn't self-sufficient and doesn't hold fund-raisers or any of that other crap.

Please consider doing at least some of your holiday shopping through our astore this year.

My point was that while that could happen, there are other things more likely to happen.

If the feedback was universally negative, then maybe that is a good thing that keeps you from making unwise choices.

Openly sharing can also lead to feedback that encourages you to make the leap of faith. It might the thing that pushes you to actually go through with the idea.

I've seen feedback rightly discourage people from doing something crazy and rightly encourage people to do something amazing, so I am not sure I agree with this author's premise.

To me Mattie... it depends on who you are sharing your idea with and whose feedback you value.

Feedback aside, when you tell someone you're going to do something, or attempt to do something, it makes you accountable, giving you added motivation to act.

Re: Would you ever sponsor me?

Well this dude argued a bit differently, and I happened to like the rest of it. I still like that piece of advice too though.
