Re: This Is Us - NBC Tuesday

Oh Brdmom, its such a great series, I'm actually sorry its on hiatus. But, it does give you a chance to catch up before the 2nd season starts. Not sure when that maybe, but we'll post whatever info in the thread.
There's no start date at this time for season 2 but it is slated to return this fall 2017 -- most likely Sept/Oct.

Re: This Is Us - NBC Tuesday

Just finished the series. The finale wasn't quite what I was expecting although I was thinking that if they showed Jack's death, then what was the second season going to be about?

Lawboy, I think you are being a little tough on Rebecca. Maybe because I am a stay-at-home, I sympathize with her more, but being at home with three kids is really tough and pretty thankless. It is a little surprising that she hadn't gone back to work by the time the kids were in middle school - it was the 1990s, not the 1960s after all. But maybe it just seemed easier for everyone for her to be home. Also, it doesn't seem like Rebecca had done anything except sing before she got married, so I'm not sure what her marketable skills were.
All that is to say, I completely understand why she would want to do something for herself. She'd spent the last 17 years doing everything for everyone else.

Also, while I don't condone her not telling Randall about his dad, I do understand. (I'm an adoptive mom as well - Rebecca kind of speaks to me!) Adoption in the 80s was so different from today. Two year olds were being returned to birth parents, and the whole adoption culture was that kids were supposed to know nothing about birth parents. It is very different today. Many adoptive parents have met the birth mother or parents, and it is not unusual for there to be some contact between birth parents and the child who has been adopted. The whole "finding your birth parents" is nowhere near as loaded as it was twenty or thirty years ago. And hasn't everyone had an experience where you meant to do something, but the longer you wait, the harder it is until it just seems easier not to do the thing rather than explain why you waited so long.

I'm not sure why Jack leaving Sophie to go talk to Ron Howard is a "bad decision". It's freakin' Ron Howard! Of course he was going to pursue that opportunity - that's a once in a lifetime chance.

This will be premiere that I will be waiting for next fall!
