Re: Doctor Who Series 10 Fantasy League

Can any of you tell me why the doctor who screenshot on the main page looks like a remake of the Addams Family?

Re: Doctor Who Series 10 Fantasy League

Episode 5 - "Oxygen"

The Doctor
a: hacks someone else’s technology (4 pts per hack) 16
b: admits to lying (6 pts per lie) 30
c: apologizes (8 pts for each apology) 0
d: appears on a video screen (10 pts per screen) 0
e: hugs someone (12 pts per hug) 24
f: appears in any kind of mirror (16 pts per reflection) 0
g: mentions a previous companion by name (20 pts per companion) 0

The Doctor hacks a door, two suits, and the corridor lighting.

He admits to lying about "the truth" being too much to ask for, that sending Nardole out on a domestic errand was a cunning ruse, about how essential the mercury fluid link was for flying the TARDIS, that he uses jokes for emotional deception, and that he wasn't actually cured of blindness.

He's hugged twice, once just by Bill, the second by Bill and joined by Nardole.

Bill
a: Bill asks the Doctor a question (1 pt per question) 45
b: Bill runs (2 pts per camera shot) 20
c: Bill gets captured/kidnapped (5 pts per capture) 10
d: Bill rendered unconscious (8 pts per incident) 16
e: Bill saves the Doctor (12 pts per save) 0
f: Bill is “possessed” (16 pts per incident of mind control) 16
g: Bill operates any TARDIS console control (20 pts per episode) 20

Bill is rendered unconscious by asphixiation, and by the suit.

She's seemingly possessed by the suit upon her apparent death, as this is the common iconography for the zombie genre.

She operates a monitor control in this episode.

Nardole
a: Nardole asks Bill a question (1 pt per question) 2
b: Nardole screams (2 pts per scream) 6
c: Nardole wears a hat (5 pts per hat) 0
d: Nardole falls down (8 pts per fall) 0
e: Nardole operates a TARDIS control (12 pts per episode) 0
f: Nardole doesn’t appear in the episode (16 pts per episode) 0
g: Nardole’s glasses get broken (20 pts per incident) 0

One of those screams is his voice cracking -- I'm inclined towards a generous reading to liven up a dismal category.

Villains and Monsters
a: Kills someone (2 pts per on-screen death) 10
b: Has any kind of gun (3 pts per gun) 0
c: Has henchmen or minions (3 pts per servant on screen) 117
d: Is described as a “god” (8 pts per reference) 0
e: Is green (10 pts per monster/villain) 0
f: Shape-shifts (15 pts per change in appearance) 0
g: Is described as “good” (20 pts per episode) 0

We see 5 deaths, including Bill's -- there were two in the cold open.

36 dead crew (yeah, the outer space shot makes them all visible) plus the three people who died after the cold open, makes 39. Yow.

The TARDIS
a: Something inside blows up, sparks, or otherwise is pyrotechnical (1 pt per shot) 0
b: Visibly materializes or dematerializes (3 pts per shot) 3
c: Is referenced as female (5 pts per reference) 0
d: The Cloister Bell gongs (8 pts per gong) 0
e: The telephone rings (10 pts per ring) 0
f: A new room is shown (20 pts per room) 0
g: Appears as something other than a Police Box (50 pts per episode) 0

There's one materialization shot, very subtle, when they first arrive on the space station.

The Sonic
a: Is used to open a door (2 pts per door) 4
b: Is used to take a reading or gather information (4 pts per reading) 20
c: Reverses the polarity of something (8 pts per use) 0
d: Is taken by someone who is not the Doctor (10 pts per acquisition) 10
e: Doesn't appear at all (15 pts per episode) 0
f: Bill uses the Sonic (25 pts per episode) 0
g: Is destroyed (50 pts per episode) 50

A lot of use by the Sonic this episode, opening doors and taking readings, and then it's yanked away by the undead and destroyed! Good times.

Dialogue
a: "Time" (1 pt) 1
b: "Shut up" (2 pts) 0
c: "Exterminate" (3 pts) 0
d: "Who are you" (5 pts) 5
e: "Beautiful" (10 pts) 0
f: "Doctor Who" (15 pts) 0
g: “Do as you are told” or "Do as you're told" (20 pts) 0

A light category this week.

Plot Point Peril
a: The Doctor, Bill, or Nardole sit in a chair (-5 pts per person per chair) -20
b: “Time Lord” referenced in the dialogue (-10 pts per reference) 0
c: More than one time zone visited in the episode (-12 pts per time zone) -24
d: Someone is "resurrected" (-16 pts per on-screen "resurrection") -16
e: A new monster/villain is actually a front/scheme of an old monster/villain (-20 pts per reveal) 0
f: A planet is imperiled (-30 pts per planet) 0
g: The Doctor, Bill, or Nardole get shot (-50 pts per episode) 0

Bill counts as a resurrection. And the season's structure of returning to the fault is wreaking havoc on "c" omg. And still be afraid of chairs.

Re: Doctor Who Series 10 Fantasy League

Vonne is the winner for the week, thanks to Muriel's tardiness in submitting an entry. Brian finally posts a big score -- maybe he's finally figured some things out, and there's still 7 more weeks to go.

Ness continues to hold her own with her gifted random picks.

Kelly and J_C are a hair's breath away from Mina at the top. Mr Mo and Jane aren't too far behind. And we can't even count out Brian, a dark horse looming in the background.

Any changes for the next round need to be PM'd by 2pm Eastern tomorrow.

Jane, you left out my B2 score.

Also, just checking; The helmet Nardole put on isn't a form of hat?

Your score has been corrected -- you're at 714 now, which means you're the leader.

Okay, I can give you that one. You, Crissy, and Ness each get an additional five points.

Re: Doctor Who Series 10 Fantasy League

I'm getting to be late in extremis.

For last week's episode:

The Doctor
a: hacks someone else’s technology (4 pts per hack) 12
b: admits to lying (6 pts per lie) 0
c: apologizes (8 pts for each apology) 0
d: appears on a video screen (10 pts per screen) 0
e: hugs someone (12 pts per hug) 0
f: appears in any kind of mirror (16 pts per reflection) 0
g: mentions a previous companion by name (20 pts per companion) 0

He hacks the execution of Missy, the lights in the library, and the email system of the simulation environment.

Which means, yes, what happens in an alternate reality still counts.

(I think Amy Pond said something to that effect, once, as she sought consolation and alcohol with her daughter upon the date of the Doctor's death. Funny, wonder why this episode makes me think of that.)

Bill
a: Bill asks the Doctor a question (1 pt per question) 13
b: Bill runs (2 pts per camera shot) 4
c: Bill gets captured/kidnapped (5 pts per capture) 0
d: Bill rendered unconscious (8 pts per incident) 0
e: Bill saves the Doctor (12 pts per save) 0
f: Bill is “possessed” (16 pts per incident of mind control) 0
g: Bill operates any TARDIS console control (20 pts per episode) 0

With Bill effectively a companion to Nardole this episode, not a lot of points on questions this time around.

Bill has died two episodes in a row now. She's the new Rory.

Nardole
a: Nardole asks Bill a question (1 pt per question) 4
b: Nardole screams (2 pts per scream) 12
c: Nardole wears a hat (5 pts per hat) 0
d: Nardole falls down (8 pts per fall) 0
e: Nardole operates a TARDIS control (12 pts per episode) 0
f: Nardole doesn’t appear in the episode (16 pts per episode) 0
g: Nardole’s glasses get broken (20 pts per incident) 0

I counted six screams -- once in the library, twice upon entering the hub, and three times when he died.

Villains and Monsters

a: Kills someone (2 pts per on-screen death) 68
b: Has any kind of gun (3 pts per gun) 0
c: Has henchmen or minions (3 pts per servant on screen) 36
d: Is described as a “god” (8 pts per reference) 0
e: Is green (10 pts per monster/villain) 0
f: Shape-shifts (15 pts per change in appearance) 0
g: Is described as “good” (20 pts per episode) 0

So, there are two sets here to consider. First, the Executioner, who plans to murder Missy and have the Doctor actually do it. He's a villain, and I counted five henchmen plus a couple of boatmen. Second, there's the Cardinals, all monsters, one of whom seems to do all the talking, so there's five additional redshirts forming his posse.

Alternate realities count, so all the deaths in the Extremis reality count. This gives us 28 dead people at CERN, plus Bill, Nardole, the Cardinal, the Priest With Gun, and the President of the United States. Oh, and Missy.

The TARDIS
a: Something inside blows up, sparks, or otherwise is pyrotechnical (1 pt per shot) 0
b: Visibly materializes or dematerializes (3 pts per shot) 0
c: Is referenced as female (5 pts per reference) 0
d: The Cloister Bell gongs (8 pts per gong) 0
e: The telephone rings (10 pts per ring) 0
f: A new room is shown (20 pts per room) 0
g: Appears as something other than a Police Box (50 pts per episode) 0

Nothing happened as far as I could see.

The Sonic
a: Is used to open a door (2 pts per door) 2
b: Is used to take a reading or gather information (4 pts per reading) 4
c: Reverses the polarity of something (8 pts per use) 0
d: Is taken by someone who is not the Doctor (10 pts per acquisition) 0
e: Doesn't appear at all (15 pts per episode) 0
f: Bill uses the Sonic (25 pts per episode) 0
g: Is destroyed (50 pts per episode) 0

Not much happening here, either.

Dialogue
a: "Time" (1 pt) 8
b: "Shut up" (2 pts) 4
c: "Exterminate" (3 pts) 0
d: "Who are you" (5 pts) 10
e: "Beautiful" (10 pts) 0
f: "Doctor Who" (15 pts) 0
g: “Do as you are told” or "Do as you're told" (20 pts) 0

Who are you? finally got some traction this week. Used to be a staple of the early Moffat years.

Plot Point Peril
a: The Doctor, Bill, or Nardole sit in a chair (-5 pts per person per chair) -30
b: “Time Lord” referenced in the dialogue (-10 pts per reference) -30
c: More than one time zone visited in the episode (-12 pts per time zone) -24
d: Someone is "resurrected" (-16 pts per on-screen "resurrection") -16
e: A new monster/villain is actually a front/scheme of an old monster/villain (-20 pts per reveal) 0
f: A planet is imperiled (-30 pts per planet) -30
g: The Doctor, Bill, or Nardole get shot (-50 pts per episode) 0

Oooh, quite perilous this week! The stakes, as described by the Doctor within Extremis, are the Earth itself. So, yeah, a planet is imperiled. Missy is resurrected; good times. Two time zones -- the present, and 1000 years ago.

And there's been an awful lot of sitting in chairs and talking about not being real.
