Okay I don't remember that, at all. Is that important?

Also, Ed Sheeran has deleted his Twitter following the episode. Lol. Twitter is full of such hate. I deleted it at LEAST 5/6 years ago when I noticed that trend beginning.

Maybe this will help:
When Bran was having one of his travels to the past, he came to a time when his (younger) father, along with some other men, came to a small keep to "rescue" his sister. The battle came down to Ned and a man who fought with a sword in each hand (Ser Arther Dayne, known as "The Sword of the Morning").
Ned would have lost but Howland Reed stabbed the other guy in the back.
Later we see Ned with his sister and a baby.
Howland Reed is one of the few people who know the identity of that baby.

Meera Reed is Howland Reed's daughter.

Re: Game of Thrones S07E01 "Dragonstone"

House Reed of Greywater Watch..the swamp folk.. long term enmity with House Frey and bannermen of House Stark. They pretty much exist without getting very involved with the issue that consume and concern the rest of Westeros. Their sigil is the alligator. Howland Reed was one of Ned Starks oldest and best
friends and was the one who stabbed Ser Arthur Dane, the sword of the morning, in the back of the head when he was kicking Ned's rear end.

A lot of this info is not just book knowledge. It has been mentioned on the TV version.

EPISODE REVIEW

Welcome to the Ultimate Review of the premiere episode of season 7 of Game of Thrones.

The Intro!
First new place on the map is Dragonstone. Looks somewhat like a dragon skeleton.

Another new site is Oldtown. Notice how they key on the armillery sphere within the citadel (lower half of pic).

Arya

It appears that Lord Walder Frey is in a very good mood and is feasting members of his family. We learn during the toast that it seems the Words of House Frey are: “STAND TOGETHER”

And then they all FALL TOGETHER. It turns out that Arya, disguised as “the late Walder Frey” has poisoned them all. Lots of dead guests and no one was even getting married.

Later on, Arya has left the Twins and meets up with a bunch of jolly, friendly, singing soldiers ; Ed Sheeran is part of a Lannister squad that has been deployed to keep the peace after the “mysterious” deaths of the Freys. Book Arya would kill them all in their sleep.

The Wall

Bran and Meera come to the Black Gate, where they are questioned by Edd Tolett, the new Lord Commander of the Nighty’s Watch. As if they weren’t going to let them in? :/
We were then met with the horrible realization that over the years, there are many giants that have lived and died over the centuries. Just how many?

Winterfell

Jon holds court, discussing preparations to defend against the Army of the Dead. The question of the turncoat Houses, Umber and Karstark come up, when Jon and Sansa come into conflict. Sansa wishes no mercy to those who allied themselves with her sadistic ex-husband. But Jon prevails, citing the fact that the real traitors are dead, and allows the survivors to once again swear loyalty to House Stark and the King in the North. Baelish witnesses the conflict, furtively.

Baelish misses the more fruitful conversation Sansa and Jon have afterward, and Jon receives a message.

Kingslanding

Cersei and Jaimie discuss their military situation, and then meet with Euron Greyjoy who proposes an alliance…and marriage. The second best line of the episode:

To “win” her, Euron says he will not return to Kingslanding until he brings her “a priceless gift”.

The Citadel

While dissecting the carcass of Maester Weyland, Sam asks for access to the restricted books. They discuss the potential danger of the Walkers, but the Archmaester seems unconcerned, assuring Sam that “this too will pass”.
He sneaks some books out anyway.

Later on he finds Ser Jorah Mormont is in one of the (quarantine?) cells at the citadel.

Back to Winterfell
Baelish is back to working on Sansa, when Sansa lays down my favorite line of the episode.

The Hound and the Brothers without Banners

This is my absolute favorite part of the episode. The poignancy and irony is amazing.
This group seeks shelter at the home a farmer and his daughter that Sandor Clegane had robbed back in season 4 episode 3. He justified it by saying that they would end up dead anyway, killed by bandits. As it turns out, that did not happen. The Hound becomes keenly aware that they died because of the onset of hunger, which would not have happened if he hadn’t taken their silver.

Sandor Clegane has a great aversion to fire, and yet the Lord of Light has chosen him, to “draw closer to the flame”, and in doing so he has visions of such clarity that even Melisandre cannot claim to have.

Dragonstone

A Targaryen comes home. Dragonstone is so dreary and miserable, no wonder Stannis never smiled.
