Re: GAMING Quick Question Thread

I have a quick question for you computer geeks. My GF just bought me a PSP for my B'day, but it hasn't got a memory card with it. I don't really want to fork out 40 for a 4gb one. Would a 256 or 512mb one do? or will that only let me save a couple of games?

Cheers

Re: GAMING Quick Question Thread

game saves don't take very much space at all. (roms of video games only take about 1kb each)
while music, pictures, videos and other stuff that are optional don't take much space.

but I'd wait a while for some other comments before you go off buying stuff.

Re: GAMING Quick Question Thread

Well I have lots of questions for you all. My kids have a Nintendo GameCube, I know that's so 2 years ago, but they don't use it all that much except Lego Star Wars. I want to get them Lego Indiana Jones now to help me avoid going insane all summer keeping them entertained. Do they still sell GameCube games, or is there a compatible brand I can buy? I didn't find much on a search. What the heck is a PSP also????

GameCube games are no more. They stopped making them a year or two ago. Lego Indiana Jones is very much like Lego Star Wars (lots of fun) and is available on Nintendo DS (a small, portable "gameboy" like device with two screens), Playstation 2, Playstation 3, PSP (Playstation Portable - essentially a portable gaming device like the Nintendo DS), xbox 360, Windows, and Wii.

If I were to make a suggestion, if your kids are still pre-teen or early teen, it would be to get a Nintendo Wii. All GameCube games work on the Nintendo Wii - and the controllers and memory cards from the GameCube are needed to play the GameCube games, so you'd already be set in that department. Then you could also get them Lego Indiana Jones for the Wii. Right now, the Wii is probably the ideal solution cost wise (retail price is $250, which is the cheapest of all the game systems when you can find them - and you can at most stores now), and you won't have to have two game systems hooked up to also play the GameCube games, so you can just ditch the GameCube or sell it, but you probably won't get a lot for it.

The novelty of the Nintendo Wii is that it has what's called a Wiimote, a wireless controller that can control things just by moving it around (use it as a steering wheel, a pointer, etc). That in and of itself would keep them busy for a while with the included Wii Sports game, which has simple Tennis, Golf, Bowling and a couple other little games. If you wanted them to be able to play games together at the same time (for example the lego games) you'd have to pick up an additional Wiimote controller, which runs about $40 (I believe). Some games might be able to be played with the GameCube controller, but don't quote me on that one.

Basically buying a new system is the only way they'll be able to play Lego Indiana Jones, unless you have a somewhat powerful PC. Lego Batman is also coming later this year (scheduled for September 1st), so that's another game that they might like, too, which is also being released on those same systems, but that might not be the best thing to get them right around the time when school starts again

If you have any other questions, just ask!

Re: GAMING Quick Question Thread

Thank you, LostEmissary! I had a feeling I was out of luck. I would like the Wii eventually, but my kids are still pretty young (9 and 6) and the cost once I add everything up is a lot for right now - maybe for Christmas?! But, they both have Nintendo DS's, so maybe buy them the Indiana Jones games for DS for now?

Re: GAMING Quick Question Thread

Guys.

Final Fantasy III. DS version.

I haven't played it in ages, and now I have the urge to. BUT. I cannot for the life of me remember which springs restores health/mp, which cure status ailments, and which cure KO. And when you can't buy phoenix downs, this is a bit of a problem.

So on the offhand someone who plays it reads this.. where are the springs that remove KO status?
