Re: Politics

But not campaigning in Michigan a lot suggests taking the state for granted which suggests in the voters' me-first perception that such voters don't matter. Hillary not having a louder presence in Michigan created a vacuum where Trump could steal the thunder. You can't just rely on the Detroit folks. Not all the time. She should have seen who Michigan's governor was and thought: I need to be here all the time. I agree with democrats who suggest a 50 state strategy. That all states matter. Or at least the ones democrats usually win. But in the end I think she just wasn't the right candidate for the time. Her time to win was in '08. But she botched that too. Seriously she did.

Wisconsin is not a backwater state. It's a pretty sophisticated political state, google spelling bees aside. Wisconsin elected Tammy Baldwin afterall. And it's where the Republican Party originated.

The other day I called Trump an abomination. I stand by that. America will never get the slime of that man off its skin. We'll see what the midterms bring.

Re: Politics

For all the people complaining about the ACA's 'mandate' to be insured: the AHCA will not mandate you have insurance. It will just penalize you if you don't--and it will make you wait six months to be able to *get* insurance, if you miss a payment.

Re: Politics

Julian Assange's wise words...

“The Trump-Russia collusion narrative is a political dead end. Despite vast resources, enormous incentives and a year of investigation, Democratic senators who have seen the classified intelligence at CIA HQ such as Senator Feinstein (as recently as March) are forced to admit that there is no evidence of collusion. Without collusion, we are left with the Democratic establishment blaming the public for not liking the truth about what Hillary Clinton said to Goldman Sachs and blaming their own base for not liking what they said in their own emails about about fixing the DNC primaries.”

“The Democratic base should move to start a new party since the party elite shows no signs that they will give up power. This can be done quickly and cheaply as a result of the internet and databases of peoples’ political preferences. This reality is proven in practice with the rapid construction of the Macron, Sanders and Trump campaigns from nothing. The existing Democratic party may well have negative reputational capital, stimulating a Macron-style clean slate approach. Regardless, in the face of such a threat, the Democratic establishment will either concede control or, as in the case of Macron, be eliminated by the new structure.”

Re: Politics

Mike Pence just bloviated that the AHCA/Trumpcare will encourage 'personal responsibility' as it pertains to health and healthcare choices.

Chidren born with health issues aren't 'personally responsible' for those issues.
People with cancer aren't 'personally responsible' for that.
Veterans dealing with physical and emotional consequences of their service aren't 'personally responsible' for their conditions.
Survivors of criminal attacks, domestic violence, sexual assault, traffic accidents, and other unforeseeable, damaging, events, are not 'personally responsible' for needing care.

None of these people are making/have made choices that cause them to need health care.

Further, none of us are exempt from the possibility of needing expensive healthcare fully beyond our means.

GOP in Congress are making a decision that they know will deny millions of people care they need to survive. This is not rhetoric, this is not speculation or supposition.

Re: Politics

Mike Pence is a dick. Pure and simple. Someone should ask Pence if erectile dysfunction will be covered by insurance and further ask him how the f is that more important than women's reproductive health or the health of children.

As for Julian Assange, well, if he's your hero then there's your message.

I personally would prefer more than two viable parties but unless new or currently small parties are willing to open their doors and quit resting on purity (libertarians, for one) and invite some degree of diversity, well, then small parties aren't going anywhere. All the folks aching for a so-called non-elite Democratic Party, by all means jump to the Greens or the Socialists. But that's like having the best orgasm you've ever had and then having mediocre ones the rest of your life, because on a national scale nothing profound is going to happen. I mean, we aren't Europe or Canada. Now in some fun but weird New England state Senate races independents have won: Sanders in Vermont; Angus King in Maine. And of course Lieberman in Connecticut, but that was because the Democrat who ousted Lieberman in the primary went on vacation for two weeks and expected Connecticut voters to elect him anyway. No, things don't work like that. But Senate races in idiosyncratic states are where non-major party energy and victories can happen. But on a national scale, forget about it.

As I said before it is time for the old names of the Democratic Party period---whether elite or not---to step aside so that folks with younger years and hungry energy to run. Especially presidentially. And especially minorities. It's just time. But evenso, don't expect things like the need to court money to disappear. That's not going to happen.

As for Russia and collusion, we may yet find some more behind the door meetings that at least on appearance look sketchy. And for me, anything that makes Trump look bad is fine. Did Trump and Putin have a chat? I have no idea. Did Trump's underlings and Putin's underlings? Likelier. If things look sketchy, then an investigation is necessary. That's the oversight job of Congress. That's the job of investigatory agencies. If Trump can't handle the negative attention, he should do the nation a favor and resign. Then he can actually run his businesses out in the open and quit pretending he doesn't have a hand in his own international finance while running the United States. Choose one or the other, dude.

As I said before, Clinton made her own mistakes and lost because of them. Trump won. And now he should suffer the three branches of govt wrath that would have fallen on her had she won. Clinton is old news and should be forgotten. Trump and Russia is current press and every detail about this connection should be known. Who knows? We may actually find out that Trump was born in a hotel in Moscow. In a hotel room overlooking Red Square.
