question, does GA have a vocal node problem? her voice is quite raspy compared to the original series. it's disconcerting IMO.

Re: The X-Files Season 11 - FOX Wednesday

good god could they not RUSH the episode? it's running at trailer speed. go back to the nice even slow flow of the 90s original. i know stupid people need wham bam faster faster, but the story is being sacrificed for the sake satiating dumber young people. eta: i like young people, i just wish you all would be more patient and take life slower.

Spoiler: spoilery
ok finished the episode. what a stupid story line,
i'm assuming because this will be the final season. smoking man as father of Mulder and some relation to Scully's child? dumb dumb dumb, do not like at all.
let's toss rational storytelling out the window for soap opera story ideas.
pathetic.

Re: The X-Files Season 11 - FOX Wednesday

Thank god for recorders, almost 10 minutes of ads at the beginning. The premiere brought back some great nostalgia from the original run, but found the editing a bit choppy. I think there were long expositions at the business-end of a gun in the original, it's sort of a trademark, but it seemed a little overdone in this premiere. I love Mulder's new ride!. Looking forward to the next episode and where it takes us. I need to rewatch the previous mini-series to catch up on some details that lost me.

eta:
Spoiler: Spoiler
As a doctor, Scully should know better.. wonder how many people she injured in that accident? Pretty foolish. She should take Uber the next time her brain is on fire and having visions and seisures.

I thought the reveal about CSM and Scully was total cringe-worthy. Very disturbing.

All I remember of the last miniseries was the standalone episode that was a repurposed Kolchak script.

For me the mythology of the show started going down the tubes soon after the first movie.

I'd love to see the return of "The Lone Gunmen" in an episode but they all probably have cushy jobs in Silicon Valley, part of the establishment.

Re: The X-Files Season 11 - FOX Wednesday

Um, Zaph, not to spoil the original series on ya, but it was revealed a LONG time ago that CSM is Mulder's bio dad and therefore Sculley's son's bio grandfather.

As for the episode itself, i feel like they're already trying to cram too much story into too few minutes, and the nuance and grace that made the original so tasteful just isn't there. Mr. Bill, it seemed to me that the editing HAD to be choppy because they're cramming in extra advert time. With all that said, however, i'm totally hooked.

The Lone Gunmen actually had their own short-lived spin-off series.

Spoiler: MASSIVE MAJOR spoiler for that spin-off series, with potential implications for the current season of X-Files
The series ends with two of them dead and the other off the grid in hiding.

I only really enjoyed them when they engaged with Mulder, I only saw a couple episodes of the spin off series and didn't think they could carry a show by themselves.

re: spoiler, I think they showed up in the last mini-series as hallucinations, which makes sense.

Re: The X-Files Season 11 - FOX Wednesday

I agree. Rushed and choppy, and Scully would never have driven in that condition!

The Mulder voiceover was also disconcerting. That's not the way Mulder talks. It sounded like an actor reading a story.

I was reading somewhere else a fan who remembered idolizing Scully when the show first aired - a female character who was smart and capable and not running around in skimpy clothes waiting to be rescued. But upon rewatching recently, now that there are lots of great female characters, she was surprised at how often Scully needed saving, how often she was unconscious or in the hospital, and how much the mythology revolved around her reproductive system. I experienced the same thing, and the big reveal in this episode just contributes more to that. Ewww.

Having said all that, I still enjoyed the epi. I'm a sucker for this damn show. I hope we get a few monster of the week episodes this season, that to me is where the show shined.

And wow, Scully and Skinner are aging WAY better than Mulder
