Re: NBA/WNBA Thread

It's Porzingas, and i don't think he's wrong, exactly. Yeah, the Knicks lost their best shooter who was also their most high-profile player, but they also unloaded a lot of salary in that. There's still a lot of good talent on the team, and they might feel like more of a team now as opposed to feeling like a no-name backup band for Big Star Carmelo Anthony. It probably causes a lot of optimism in a way, especially knowing that they have space under the cap, and knowing that Dolan won't be afraid to make a big acquisition if the team is playing well and one becomes available.

A Buddhist sanctuary in Nepal is where Phil Jackson belongs, IMO. He's proven that he can only win with teams which are loaded, he was over his head taking the Knicks executive job. He needs to spend the rest of this life in reflection and austerity so that the next one is not spent as a sand flea.

Re: NBA/WNBA Thread

As of right now, the Knicks have a better record than the Thunder.

Things that make me go, "lol"

It's early, i know. I gotta take these chances when i get them.

I've been able to watch the Knicks play a few games this year and i'm impressed at how quickly they've gelled. I feel like i'm seeing what Honecek can really do without half of Anthony's ego crammed sideways deep up inside his game and play planning. So much of Porzingis's success so far this season is that opposing teams can't count on him trying to be everything, but instead having to try to defend against him potentially doing anything.

I don't expect a title this year. Before the year started, i expected to see a fun to watch team developing. As of right now, i expect to see a reasonably competitive team that can make the conference semis if they keep improving, and i see no reason to expect that they won't keep improving. And i look forward to watching as much of it as i can. I can honestly say that right now i feel more positive vibes towards the franchise than when Stoudamire or Marbury came over.

I REALLY hope that Dolan has learned a trick or two; if i had to pick one trick, it would be listening to his own coaching staff about prospective additions.

LBJ for NYC? Don't rule it out y'all.

Re: NBA/WNBA Thread

The Knicks had a nice come-from-behind home win the other night against quality opponent Raptors, who had iirc won the last 8 meetings between these two teams.

Tim Hardaway Jr. led the Knicks' scorers with a new career high 38, and was the first Knick with at least 35 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists in a game since Ewing did it in '91.

The Knicks really won the game in the third quarter, when they held Toronto to 1-16 shooting from the floor and outscored them something like 42-8 (not sure of the exact quarter score off hand). This team can play really solid defense; Lance Thomas seems to be emerging as a defensive leader off the bench, his defensive style is so different from Porzingas's that it seems to be able to disrupt other teams if they start to get into rhythm against the starters' D.

It's really been a lot of fun to watch this Knicks team, and it seems like Hornacek is really coming into his own now without Carmelo. Obviously i don't give them a realistic shot at the Finals, or even the Conference Finals considering how stacked the Cavs and Celtics are (MAN the Celtics are just burning the house down so far this year). But it's really nice to see the team playing up to their potential, having fun, and beating good teams.

The Knicks are playing better than i expected, and a lot of people consider them to be overachieving right now but i think they'll continue to improve. Imo the big positive surprise in the East has been Detroit. I certainly didn't expect them to be winning so many games, and i know i'm not alone in that.

If i could wish for any big upgrades for the Knicks, i think they could use better guards. The big men are good enough, especially if Hardaway continues to improve, but a better point guard would help a lot, and the Knicks really have no strong assassin to play the 2. It helps a lot that so many of the bigs can shoot from outside, but i'm just saying that an improvement or two in the backcourt could make this team considerably more dangerous, AS LONG AS it's not a primadonna. This group of guys has shown that they didn't interact well with Anthony, it'd be a shame if Dolan tried to give them another weapon and he turned into another albatross.

Re: NBA/WNBA Thread

And so of course the Knicks have dropped 3 straight since that last post, first of all to the absolutely horrific Hawks, then more understandably to the Rockets and tonight to the 'Blazers. They dropped 4 spots in the EC standings, from 5th to 9th, and are now at .500. :/

One (very small) bright spot was seeing Noah get (literally) a few minutes. As his health improves he could deepen the frontcourt defense notably.

Re: NBA/WNBA Thread

Wanted to comment on that GSW vs. Cavs game the other night.

IIRC, the Cavs were up by a couple at the half. Then, GSW came out for the 3rd-qtr. and decided to clamp down on Defense.

Man-o-man, they remind me of the Chicago Bulls in their heyday. If they don't want you to score, you don't score.

The Dubs went on a 26-9 run to end the game. Yeah, I love to see KD, Clay and Steph shoot the ball, but watching them enact team-defense is jaw-dropping.
