Re: Woody's: One anti-inflammatory from blowing up!

I didn't know those lion fish were invasive. Carl saw one of them and I think I did as well.

In Michigan there are these Japanese lady bugs that BITE. You think they are pretty, and they are but then you feel their little pinch. No fun.

What a cool menu, not that I'd try any of it. Love the mindset of those folk who set it up. That activist, Abby Hoffman, once said that if man had to eat whatever we killed then there would be no more wars. Rotfl. Truth in that statement.
In college one of my house mates was a TI and he put on a Wild Collective BBQ for his class with dishes made from what people could find on the road. Luckily road kill was not on the menu, but chicory coffee was along with other things I can't remember. It really opened my eyes though to what was around in the fields and started my life long love to identify and learn of them.

Lion fish are both invasive and poisonous. Just like the pythons, people get them because they look cool. When they start killing the rest of their pricey salt water aquarium, they toss them into the nearest salt water.

I've never been bitten by one, but I've heard people talk about biting lady bugs before so we may have them here too.

I'd have totally tried everything on the menu, if the price per plate weren't so high. I know it was for a good cause but I couldn't afford it at the time. I've eaten wild boar bbq a few times though.

One of the farm's neighbors is a couple, both of whom are edible plant gurus. They'll walk around the property picking what you think are weeds and eating them, telling you what they are, what they're good for, what kinds of vitamins they're a source for, etc. Even if they aren't human edible, they'll tell you what certain animals like too. Chickweed for example is crack to chickens.

Yes, I enjoy that. When I went to Mackinaw City and viewed historical re-enactors at the 18th century fort, they showed me how people of that time enjoyed eating salads however their green mix included nasturtium and sorrel. Now this summer, I want to host a little tea at my house that features an old fashioned salad. Edible wilds seem like a fun thing to add to it.

I've got some sorrel seeds. I want to try growing it this spring.

Re: Woody's: One anti-inflammatory from blowing up!

I don't have my nastursian seeds yet, but I'm pm'ing my address now for that sorrel.
BTW, it tastes delicious in a nice sour sort of way, however it is cautioned about eating it too much because it could cause kidney stones, and be toxic. It is also used in as medicine for respiratory issues.

I think a little bit will be an excellent thing to do. Thank you.

Cool. I remember my grandmother growing nasturtium and eating the flowers when I was little. I thought she was so weird for eating flowers.
