Re: The Americans

This is becoming one of the shows I really look forward to each week. Elizabeth has a past. Kinda makes sense that with their cover marriage that they'd wind up with other people to fulfill them at some point. Liked how they actually seem to be becoming more of a couple now, tho. They work well together. I'm sure that it won't always be like this, but right now the KGB is kinda kicking the FBI's asp.

She didn't have to recruit the black guy, he was onboard from the beginning. Just like her! I remember him saying, "it was never about color, just about them." She fell in love with him and him with her. Not like her marriage, where they were put together like two animals.

But you're right Vincent, they are moving much closer to one another in an emotional way. Can't imagine being ordered to have children because it looks good in public.

No doubt. I can't imagine having such a strong belief in a political system that I would comply with an order like that. I'd probably lose faith on the spot.

Re: The Americans

This is a really top notch series.

In Control, episode 4, takes place the day of the assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagon. What these embedded spies go through is unbelievable. What they planned for was anarchy.

I don't watch the show, but I saw this pop up this afternoon and thought the folks who do watch it may want to know; The Americans renewed for a second season.

Re: The Americans

not to mention the ruthless, clodblooded manner in which she dispached the security officer. Wow.

Sweet! You really should give it a whirl sometime.

Hendo, she bared that great smile and shot the guy in the ear. Closed the passenger-door, climbed behind the wheel and drove off like nothing had happened.

From what we've been shown, she also hates Americans. Hates living in America. Remember how quickly she wanted to start killing prominent American politicals? She's got a heart of stone.

Yet her husband, Phillip, has almost become americanized. Yeah, he'll follow "Mother Russia's" orders, but he does it with trepidation.

Thanks for the article Brian. And, I agree with Vincent, you should give it a try.

As Elizabeth says, it didn't happen in the beginning but it's happening now. I think Phillip has loved her for a long time and she has grown and is growing to love him as well.

I don't want to like these people, but I do.

I agree that Elizabeth is more hardcore than Phillip is some respects, but I think that's because Phillip has always thought of Elizabeth and his children and his family taking precedent over all else. And he sees an alternative life that is most beneficial for his family. Elizabeth sees her duty and commitment as being primary. If that changes, they'll defect in a heartbeat.

The Jennings go above and beyond to help "Mother Russia". I'm pretty sure they knew the girl, the mother of the baby, was going to die.

This is good television!
I agree this is good television. I disagree about knowing the mother of the baby was going to die. Phillip would never have turned her over. Both he and Elizabeth honestly believed (IMO) that mother and child were being relocated to Cuba.

Elizabeth doesn't have a heart of stone. I think she is extremely patriotic and loyal to her country. She completely believes the party line which includes false information about our country, its motives and methods.

This is an excellent program and I would recommend it to everyone. Really "top-notch"!
