Re: Better Call Saul - AMC Monday

I'm thinking there's going to be a time jump. Maybe show Chuck's funeral, then go forward a year, or maybe just jump right into the future off the bat.

Vince Gilligan has already said the show will be concurrent with BB in part, and we need to speed up the clock unless this show is gonna be 10 seasons (a man can dream). It'd be an interesting watch, they could reference events that we didn't see, and gradually explain what happened during the interim.

Anyone else notice the book Chuck was reading to Jimmy during the cold open was the one he had on top of the stack when he was kicking the table? I think he finally decided to make the ultimate sacrifice so Jimmy could fly without having to worry about Chuck. Ironic, as that'll probably be the biggest factor in turning him into Saul instead.

It was also one of the Mabel books that Jimmy pulled off the shelf in the season’s first episode when he was helping Chuck to de-Mylar. Jimmy remembered their mother reading the book to them but Chuck pointed out that Jimmy didn’t remember correctly, that it was Chuck who did the reading. (Though Jimmy did remember Chuck’s favorite night-light, a Daffy Duck knock-off, that got so hot they were afraid the light would burn the house down.) Since the book fell off the table just before the lantern did, I doubt if it will survive the flames, so it won’t be showing Jimmy that Chuck was thinking back to when the big brother knew all the answers. What will reverberate for Jimmy is that the last thing Chuck said to him was that “you’ve never mattered all that much to me.”

I'm not in agreement about Chuck's motive for setting his house on fire. I think Chuck couldn't handle being controlled by his illness rather than being his own master. But motives are complicated things, especially for BCS characters. So maybe setting Jimmy free was there, too.

I loved the shot sequence of Jimmy and Kim leaving their office, completely bare except for a pair of trash cans. Cut to Chuck's house after he'd trashed it, the walls torn up and belongings scattered every which way.

I'm equally interested in what happens to Gene. I'd like to see more flash forwards and eventually live in "Gene-time"for a while. Will there be a way out for him? Will he reconnect with Kim? He is basically serving time, mostly psychological and self-imposed, and if Gene's caught that definitely won't count as "time served". I would like to see a happy ending for him, but it really depends on the what happens in the missing pieces of Saul's life. How far does he go and is he beyond redemption in the end.

I can't believe that Michael McKean was snubbed for an Emmy nomination. He owned this season. His scenes in the Bar Hearing were absolutely deserving, not to mention the finale. What an oversight.

Seriously.

Did you catch him on Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, playing opposite a wax statue of Warren G. Harding? (It went on much too long but it was pretty funny. They must have been using the costumes and props from Little Foxes -- he's been getting great reviews for that -- Foxes, not Oliver, that is.)

No, I missed it, but I recently watched Best in Show. I recognized a bit of Chuck in Stefan Vanderhoof, lol. I can also imagine Chuck and Rebecca attending dog shows at some point in their history.

LOL. Between attending concerts and hosting dinner parties. They actually probably had busy lives back then. We need more Chuck backstory! Get to work, Vince Gilligan!
