Thanks for sharing. I'll do that.

ISS

International Space Station. There is a great picture taken by NASA where you can clearly see it.

I got home and asked my 10 year
old what he thought. He said he "was disappointed because it didn't come close to meeting his overly high expectations."

Re: What's New/Happy Eclipse Day!

I spent a good part of the day watching the eclipse on TWC as advertised. They did a pretty good job overall, though some of the commentary was flat-out goofy.

Spoiler: notes
gift cards make great gifts both for shoppers who are lazy and/or have a lot of gifts to buy. They're also a shrewd choice if there are individuals in your life for whom it is difficult to shop. When bought through the astore, they also help support this site, which isn't self-sufficient and doesn't hold fund-raisers or any of that other crap.

Please consider doing at least some of your holiday shopping through our astore this year.

Re: What's New/Happy Eclipse Day!

Sis picked me up a little after 10 am. Went to her house.

The rehab lady had ordered 200 glasses for the patients, but they got recalled! I said I'd sign a waiver absolving them of all responsibility, and she said she had to send them back for a refund. She was only able to get 50 approved ones, so I was outta luck.

So, at Sis's, I sat on the back porch and made those cereal box things.

About 30 minutes before totality, the moon could be seen beginning to enter the sun's area. Of course, we aren't going to sit around staring into a box, so we gave it some time. Okay, it's beginning to get dark - peek in the box.

Cicadas started making their obnoxious noise, so we got glued to the boxes. Darker, darker. Okay, I think this is total now. I turned to look, and sure enough, the moon was right in front of the sun. (Sis was yelling at me to not look. Oh, well, I did. I don't feel damaged at all)

So, after about one minute, it became brighter. Then voila, it was all over with.

It is so hard for me to believe how many thousands and thousands of moolah people spent to witness that.

I'm glad I was here, but never ever would I shell out that much money for such a fleeting thing.

It might have been different with crowds getting excited, but for my circumstance, I'm with Wartie. Well, there it was, there it went. Ho-hum.

Oh, I'm in my humble apartment now! No more enclosed rehab crap (although that facility was nice).

I can sorta walk. This apartment is small enough that I don't need the walker everywhere. The difference of before surgery and after rehab certainly does seem like that miracle.

Eh.. I though it was pretty cool. It was my child that was underwhelmed, but he's still susceptible to hype. They made a huge deal about it.

That thing about the shadows was cool. I noticed that as well with tree shadows.

I saw some of those. They were really cool. I also saw someone using a colander. That was pretty neat. I was making eclipse shadows with my hands too by overlapping them, leaving a tiny aperture in the space between my thumbs and forefingers. When I splayed my fingers, I got some cool effects too.

Re: What's New/Happy Eclipse Day!

It was cool to have the darkened daytime, however right after the eclipse the clouds rolled in so it appeared to me that the eclipse was still happening.
Everyone I met was pretty happy to be experiencing it.

Now today folks are worried about what they did to their eyes.

Re: What's New/Happy Eclipse Day!

My washing machine is broken, which is just about right when you're trying to get someone ready to go to college and have clothes, bedding, towels, mattress pads, etc. to wash.
