Re: The Alienist on TNT

Been watching this one since the beginning, and I find it fascinating and disturbing in equal parts. This show is part Sherlock (more classic Sherlock), and part Criminal Minds, set in 1890's setting of a very corrupt NYC, with a twisted minded killer who targets young boy prostitutes.

Daniel Bruhl is great, and so are Luke Evans and Dakota Fanning. They all have their issues, which are now being played out as they scope the psychology of the killer.

Would enjoy some conversation on this one.

Re: The Alienist on TNT

I've been wanting to catch this. I was out of the country for the first three weeks of it, so do you know where it might be found so I don't have to enter into the middle of the drama?

Strange title, I was expecting some sci-fi elements in this. I actually had to look it up ...

Alienist..a psychiatrist who assesses the competence of a defendant in a court of law.

Learn something new every day.

It is what they called psychiatrists before the that term came into being. The opening sequence says that it used to be thought that people with severe mental issues were alienated from their true selfs, so those who studied them were called Alienists.

Re: The Alienist on TNT

Lawboy, I've been watching and enjoying.

And, you're right about the cast. Great acting all away round.

Daniel Bruhl has been great in a lot of things... Inglourious Basterds, The Bourne Ultimatum, and because I'm an F1 fan, I saw him in Ron Howard's F1 movie, Rush.

But, I've also been impressed with Dakota Fanning. Maybe I shouldn't be. She's been acting since she was very young.

You're also right about the series, synopsis too. You definitely get a Sherlock Holmes vibe (older version). And, because of the time and place, its also very dark cinematically.

I read the book eons ago - and I really loved it. I am not sure how much of the book is in this, but I am interested in watching.

Re: The Alienist on TNT

I caught a show of this finally. I like it a lot.
Period drams with superior sets and props.
Great and authentic looking costumes and hair styles
Riveting storyline that is delivered in a choppy fashion. I found that I had to watch it twice. The second watching it all came together and was so good.

Give this a try. Can't wait until they start to show it again so I can catch up on the ones I've missed.

Monday's on TNT
