Re: Marvel's Jessica Jones - Netflix

Spoiler: episode 7-8

"What if I could make Kilgrave use his powers for good."
"You can't. He's a psychopath."

He REALLY is.
It's way too fun learning more about him.

"Nightmare Barbie's Dreamhouse"

I am not quite sure what to think, really. It was hilarious and horrifying how he actually thought that she would be impressed/pleased at the creepy house makeover. I don't think that's part of the "psychopath," though, that's him just genuinely not having a clue what people actually want and what they don't.

He really did seem fairly convincing when he was talking to her about the difficulties of his power. When she brought up him raping her, he seemed like he really didn't know what she was talking about. And you can buy that for a minute, because of his general cluelessness when it comes to dealing with someone when he gives them free will.

But, I don't think I can buy it all the way. Because of the "pick up that coffee. Now throw it in your face." "See how long it will take you to put your head through that post." All the petty shit. I think the not-knowing stuff is outweighed by the casually-sadistic stuff.

The video of his creation was really sad. And explains a lot. It would be less forgivable/understandable if he got these powers as an adult. At 10, with a decidedly twisted upbringing, he never had the chance to figure out people, and it makes sense that he would then be too lazy to try. Emotionally he's still an angry, petulant child.
He's solipsistic because he actually can afford to be, without consequence.

The dynamic with him and Jessica is fantastic. He doesn't trust her, but he wants to SO badly-- this foolish hope that things could go his way without having to use his power. And the look on his face when she was on the phone with Trish, and insulted him.

I love the turn-around when Jessica got him with the drugs, but still too early in the season for that to be the final solution.

Wondering if it's a continuity error that the next door neighbor stayed under his control to blow herself up, even when he'd been knocked out by the drug.

Spoiler: episode 9

DUDE.

That was intense.

I can't even process.
And don't know what to think about the conflictions between his story and his parents' story.

But now I'm excited.

Is Jessica's ability to resist him because of something special that happened, or because she just built up a tolerance?

Gahhhh this show.

Spoiler: episode 10

I really don't like the vaccine thing. I don't want his powers to fail

I think that's all I have to say about this ep.

Oh, except that I'll never like Pam. She sucks as much as Trinity does. She knew that she was messing up a marriage. So she can go to hell.

Spoiler: ep 11

I didn't like this one as much.

Prob the lack of Kilgrave.

Nice to get backstories and all, but meh.

I *am* intrigued by the good doctor and his magic pills.

Wondering if it's a season 2 set-up.

I haven't watched it yet but I have high hopes.

Any non spoilers on Tennants performance? I think he is brilliant at times.

He is very brilliant in this. And his character is well-written. Most of those posts that I've made in those spoiler tags are raving about him/his character.

Re: Marvel's Jessica Jones - Netflix

Spoiler: ep 12

Well that escalated quickly.

When Kilgrave gives the "I forgive you" line and I realized that he had been running Luke the whole time, OMG. That was awesome. I'm not a huge fan of fight scenes but that was a really good one. Kilgrave is hilarious "THAT WAS OUR SEXUAL TENSION." He's so frustrated and bitter.

The whole blender thing was fun, too. Won't even let the man take a nap. He's like a child-king.

I think Ruben's twin may have stolen the episode, though. That scene with her and Malcolm was heavy. I seriously almost started crying. Funny at the same time, though, with the "I hope they have express shipping in heaven" Good stuff.

Trish and her mom bore me. Simpson bores me. I guess this IGH or whatever thing is prob going to be set up for next season.

I'm kind of bummed because I only have one episode left and I'm pretty sure Kilgrave is going to die, and then I won't really want to watch season 2.

So she was stalking Luke because he's also "special."

I think that Jessica was 'stalking' Luke cuz he was Reva's (gal she killed) husband.

Spoiler: Just in case
Maybe I'm in the minority or just not a Whovian.
Anyway, I kinda wished they woulda finished with Kilgrave's character after 4-5 episodes.
I'm not a fan of the 'do as I command' superpower. Kinda boring.

I do like how dark the show is. Pretty kool atmosphere.
I think with the premise I'd prefer it to exist in it's own (non-Marvel) universe.
I think I'm on episode 7 or 8. Be back with more later....

Spoiler: response

Yeah, I just was kind of slow to catch on to her reasoning for stalking him, lol.

And we'll agree to disagree on Kilgrave. Part of it surely is my fangirl love for Tennant. But seriously objectively I think he's doing a fantastic job in this character. I love the building complexity and the confusion as to what is a lie and what is the truth.

I really am not sure I'll want to come back next season if there is no Kilgrave. Jessica is alright, the rest of the characters are "meh" for me (although I really like Malcolm, the junkie).

Re: Marvel's Jessica Jones - Netflix

Given up the ghost JJ.
Spoiler: 10 and done
After a few more episodes, things that were bugging me really came to a head.
Now obviously JJ is kinda reactionary, but Kilgrave is supposed to be some kinda mastermind.
However, to me he just seems to come off as a petulant child who's not as smart as he thinks.
I read some critic calling Kilgrave 'an amazing villain'. Seriously?!
If that's what you call a great villain, you really need to watch better tv/films - TYVM!

Then the cop turns into some kinda psycho killer after taking a few pills?
Then to top it all off. Kilgrave's powers are a virus? Seriously?!
Now his 'gift' being created by a virus mutation, I coulda rolled with, but that. dbl ugh!!
Now Hope's dead, like that, and for what?! So JJ can finally go after Kilgrave. Unbelievable.
She shoulda been free to do that as soon as they traded for the father. Just unnecessary.
So JJ finally came to the self evident fact that everyone knew by episode 1?!

Only 3 episodes left & I dunno how TPTB are gonna stretch the story that far.
Maybe they'll (almost) catch Kilgrave again, or kill another character off just cuz they can.
Who knows and quite frankly I don't care, anymore. I'm done.
