Re: Warty's Sandman FR - Overture

The new issue of Entertainment Weekly has an interview w/Gaiman that focuses mostly on "24 Hours" but also touches on how he approached the series as a whole. "24 Hours" was different for a few reasons. Very much worth reading. (Can't find an online link; the author is Christian Holub.)

Mo, I am enjoying Death, but it’s not Sandman.

Thanks though for talking me into reading it.

Re: Warty's Sandman FR - Overture

Definitely not Sandman.

You should read Dark Tower.

Here’s the thing... I’ve never really read King.. I did once and I wasn’t all that impressed.

I’ve heard so many conflicting comments about Dark Tower.

... and it won’t top Sandman, so I might judge it unfairly.

Re: Warty's Sandman FR - Overture

It doesn't top Sandman because it's not playing the same game as Sandman. Sandman doesn't top Dark Tower, either. And I mean that with all of my heart.

This isn't McGregor vs. Mayweather. Both fight in their own games. Sandman does its thing, Dark Tower does its thing.

The good thing is, it doesn't matter about any other King books, because Dark Tower isn't fighting in their game, either.

Dark Tower is completely its own genre. There is literally nothing else like it. Which means, yes, it is very strange. But, really, while there are a few (awesome) sci-fi westerns, there really aren't any other mythological medieval sci-fi western horror fantasies with telepaths.

And there are other worlds than these.

Seriously my best T-shirt ever is the one I had made with "19" on the breast-pocket in the front, and "Go then. There are other worlds than these." in small print on the back.
