THE TOURNEY AT LTV - Run-off Poll

We're going to have a Tournament!

After much debate, it's time to determine who is the Greatest Warrior of the GoT / ASOIAF universe.

PICK YOUR TOP TEN ONLY.
We'll use this poll to determine our top 16 candidates, and to seed the tournament-- after this poll, we'll set up a bracket and then do match-ups until we have an overall winner.

Basic Guidelines:

--Book OR Show info can be used to make your decision (or defend your decision).

--Each Warrior is armed and armored as they generally are in the books. They are considered to be in their "top form," uninjured, etc.

--Weapons do not include anything with independent will (human or animal-- having Grey Wolf does not make Robb Stark a better warrior, because Grey Wolf has his own skills and autonomy). Each Warrior needs to be considered as fighting alone, not with "back up" from friends, and fighting in a standard combat situation (not relying on ambush/stealth, for example).

--ONLY use for consideration what you have seen in the book/show (for example, mentions of someone's prowess 15 years before the book/show would not be applicable).

So... VOTE! Feel free to post who you've chosen, and to make a case in the thread to sway other voters.

Re: THE TOURNEY AT LTV - Run-off Poll

My picks:

Oberyn - dude took down the Mountain. then stepped too close, but still.

Jaime - with hand, he was a beast. widely regarded one of, if not the, best swordsman in westeros. fighting and screwing his sister are the only things he really enjoys

Drogo - his braid was never cut

Syrio - kicked the ass of a frickin armed and armored posse, with a wooden sword. First Sword of Braavos.

Barristan - even old and decrepit, manages to do some awesome things (cutting his way out of King's Landing, saving Dany armed with only a staff, etc). can't deny the skills

Bronn - may not be formally trained in chivalry, but has a killer's heart and instinct

Loras - also has undeniable skills.

Brienne - kicks ass all over town. in match-ups against these others, will certainly be in one of the top spots

Sandor - big, fast, and hungry. everyone is scared of him. loves killing. kicked Beric's ass even when on fire.

Gregor - the m-f-ing Mountain

Re: THE TOURNEY AT LTV - Run-off Poll

This is really a competition for "best duelist" for those of us who are purists in that sense. And dueling w/o jousting considered to boot.

Nonetheless, great idea, vonne!

Re: THE TOURNEY AT LTV - Run-off Poll

Like I said-- even in battle, you're generally only killing one foe at a time. Call that dueling if you wish

Now vote.

I see Echo has already hopped in on the poll.

Re: THE TOURNEY AT LTV - Run-off Poll

I had a very difficult time picking my tenth. I had it down to Bronn or Drogo. I tried to picture them fighting one-on-one in my mind. They actually have fairly similar styles, although Drogo is more berserker while Bronn is more rogue-ish. I decided that Drogo's constitution and strength would make up for Bronn's dexterity in a VERY close match that could likely have claimed both lives. The reality of a fight like that is that it could have gone either way. Even as a fairly big guy, i'm more inclined to Bronn's style, but I've gotten my ass beat by being clever against bigger guys. It's hard to say. The definitive consideration was that Drogo was Khal, which means he probably beat a lot of tricky guys before.

Re: THE TOURNEY AT LTV - Run-off Poll

Seriously you guys, only one vote for Mance so far?

I know we didn't see him do it, but he unified the tribes north of the wall. Just imagine how many asses he had to kick to do that! And he was still in his prime!

Re: THE TOURNEY AT LTV - Run-off Poll

I'm surprised how many are picking Daario. I nearly forgot to even include him in the poll, but I had a few extra slots to fill, so I'm like, meh, put the little pretty boy in there.

I mean, yes, he can fight, but I think Old Decrepit Selmy could take him.

All ten of my votes go to Robb Stark, and rightly so.

I feel like I don't even know who you people are.

You've neglected to include too many of my choices so I'm abstaining from the vote.
