Re: College Basketball

Seniors have to go dude. But that was a stupid decision on letting Rajon Rondo go though because hes not yet good enough for the NBA.

Re: College Basketball

8 players have left the team and only 3 were seniors. UK didn't let go of Rondo, he left on his own because he was frustrated with Tubby's system.

Re: College Basketball

There isn't in AD in the country that would get rid of Tubby. He is plenty secure in his position as our Coach. he will be here as long as he wants to be and I couldn't be happier. Many UK fans have far loftier expectations of their program than they should.

That happened last year to UNC - and it wasn't the end of the world. Maybe it'll give Tubs an opportunity to coach a "team" from the ground up again - much in the way that Roy Williams did at UNC. Yeah, the team that won the National Championship was awesome, but there were problems (Rashad McCants, namely)... and in my opinion this new group of kids plays much more like a team than I've seen in a while.

If at the end of this season, they have another less than great season, and a bunch more kids leave before they graduate, then I'll agree with you about Tubby Smith.

Re: College Basketball

Hey solat. Was 2 years Roy's first at UNC? And if so does he get any grief for winning a championship with someone else's players?

Re: College Basketball

His first season was 2003 - 2004 at UNC. They tried to recruit him in 2000, but instead got Matt Doherty (but it was assumed that once Roy won a National Championship at Kansas, he would come to UNC - which never happened).

But no, no one criticizes Roy at all for winning the National Championship with Doherty's recruits. All of the guys who went Pro rebelled against Doherty and were pretty disrespectful of him. But Roy Williams kind of whipped them into shape (except McCants) and made them play better. It's kind of assumed that UNC would have never won the National Championship in 2005 if Doherty was still around.

Chapel Hill loves Roy Williams... he's the modern-era Dean Smith.

Re: College Basketball

I mean look at Rondo when he was a freshman. He was good, but until only until this past year. it might help for a couple of good freshman to come in. but Tubby's a very good coach. As for LSU and Uconn, i figure they are top contenders this year, as long as LSU has Big Baby.
