Re: Berlin Station - EPIX Sunday

I looked at the first page of the thread, because I remember watching the Pilot. Yep, there was my comment. Problem. I don't remember any of it. So, I'll have to start from the beginning.

Senility is a biatch!

"S01E01"

I didn't remember the opening at all. So, are we watching this series from Daniel's shooting, retracing his steps?

Fine actors: Richard Jenkins, Michelle Forbes, Rhys Ifans (Mycroft Holmes - Elementary), Leland Orser and Tamlyn Tomita.

There's an apparent mole within the Berlin station of the CIA. A lot of the bureaus secrets are being exposed by a Thomas Shaw via a newspaper journalist.

Didn't see the Tamlyn Tomita character's involvement with the Richard Jenkins character.

Yes, the opening scene of Season 1 is revisited in the Finale, although if I recall, it is not the last scene.

Agreed!

It's definitely the major plot that drives the first season.

Yep, unfortunate for Kelly (Steven's wife).

I also like the German characters and appreciate that the show doesn't shy away from German dialogue. I don't mind subtitles.

I also like Daniel's backstory, it really explains why he became a spook. My favorite character though is Hector, played by Rhys Ifans.

Unfortunately I wasn't impressed with S02E03, namely not enough Hector and Daniel. This one focused on Valerie. I don't know what to make of Josef. I have a feeling that it is going to be a total setup complete with dis-information. It's good that she's being cautious, but I don't think cautious enough. I think she's trying to mix too much pleasure into business.

When Hector did show up and tried the blackmail routine on Robert, I didn't buy it, and I don't think Hector has a leg to stand on. I think his past deeds would put him away for life. But I guess it's up to the new chief (Ashley Judd) whose philosophy seems to be "give me results - doesn't matter how they're gained".

Re: Berlin Station - EPIX Sunday

"S01E02 - Lights Don't Run on Loyalty"

Question: Is the guy who dresses in black and has black hair, Cumberbatch?

I assumed in the struggle, she fell out the window? She got an early production check.

I thought it was strange for Daniel to contact the newspaper journalist and blow his cover. Although I don't think he told her he'd made contact with the courier, or that they were kind'a involved.

Is Hector gay, or does he just play one? If he isn't, when he told his boss his CI was on a plane back to Saudi Arabia to be killed, he looked like it really mattered.

Also, that scene on the roof between Daniel and Hector was so telling. Hector even admitted, in so many words, he was Thomas Shaw.

Great scene, when Steven had his shoes refurbished. The guy actually worked for the CIA, and that apartment was bugged from the floor to the ceiling.

Also wanted to mention, how the city of Berlin is also a "character" in the series.

Didn't realize Daniel still had relatives living in Berlin.

No, lol. If he is, he has some kind of wasting disease. This guy doesn't weigh more than 100 lbs. According to IMDB, Julian De Vos is played by
Sabin Tambrea, a Romanian actor.

Julian definitely pushed her out of the window.

I think Daniel wanted to make the point that because of the journalist's association with Thomas Shaw and recruiting her friend to be the courier, she was responsible for her friend's death when she wanted out.

Hector goes whichever way the wind blows on a given day but I think his heart is too big for his profession.

Yes, his warnings were pretty telling. Ifans really knows how to play a damaged man. So does Sabin (Julian). I still wonder if Hector was really considering shoving Daniel off the roof. "I got you".

I like how Steven bought a random but expensive pair of shoes on the way out. I think he said , "Loyalty doesn't keep the lights on". Great touch.

Daniel and his sister grew up in Berlin, I guess sis met someone and settled there. Wait, Is it his sister or cousin, I'm confused? (Of course she thinks Daniel works for the embassy, right?)
