Re: Ozark - Netflix

This should be interesting, Jason Bateman is great in comedic roles (Arrested Development, Horrible Bosses, etc.), curious to see how he'll do in this. Looks quite dark and gritty.

Early reviews I've read have been quite positive. Apparently Julia Garner, who you may know from The Americans, really steals some scenes.

All episodes to be released tomorrow on Netflix.

I'm up to ep3, about 15 minutes in, and fully captivated. Don't know how it will play, but these first few eps have been intense. Seriously great show.

After watching the first episode, I think it's up to the the kids to save themselves because the parents can go to hell.

Re: Ozark - Netflix

I've finished episode 4 and I'm enjoying it. Funny that both Wendy and daughter have serious right hooks. I like Wendy's no bs - cut to the point attitude. Marty is attracting trouble from all sides. Maybe witness protection isn't such a bad idea after all.

Re: Ozark - Netflix

I finished it this weekend. It was pretty good, but not great. I'd watch a second season if one gets made.

What I liked about it:
  • Jason Bateman was good, I liked his character and I thought he did well in a dramatic role.
  • I thought Marty's family was well written and well acted.
  • I liked Ruth and her uncles and cousins. They were interesting and entertaining.

What I thought didn't work:
  • The FBI agents. I thought they were idiots, not very interesting, entertaining or well written.
  • The Snells were not entertaining bad guys, I found them to be kind of a yawn.
  • The flashback episode (episode 8) was a mess. It jumped all over the place and I found it hard to follow. I'm not sure what the point of the FBI agent's mother was in the flashback unless it was to show why he was a goof.

What did everyone else think? Mr. Bill, Dark Side of the Moon?

Re: Ozark - Netflix

Finished it last weekend. Was not what I thought it would be. Was better. Great run as a mini series. I'd recommend it to anyone. Actually, for that matter, I did recommend it to a friend who binged watched and loved it.

Ozark is an origin story with regards to the family which plays a big role in its entertainment value. Not sure I care about the characters enough to watch a second season in the same setting, with two exceptions. I found both Ruth and the owner of The Blue Note quite compelling. Wouldn't mind seeing Ruth spin off.

Jason Bateman did a good job as the outlaw protagonist but ultimately the character is unlikable.

Overall, Ozark, while hokey and predictable at times, is a very well produced series about a family who flees the big city for a reason you just don't see coming. That wholly original premise carries the show from top to bottom. The story has been told. IMHO, if there is a second season, it should be set 5 or so years down the line.

Re: Ozark - Netflix

I'm finding the entire lapse of wanting his money stupid. I think I'm on ep 5 now and the cartel hasn't even paid him a visit. Its like He's laundering a couple bucks at a time.
