Re: Vikings on History Channel

We liked it! The sets and scenery (both land and human) are gorgeous, the acting was decent with interesting character portrayals, the story was told well. I had no real complaints, and will definitely be tuning in again.

ETA: The lead actor reminded me a lot of Charlie Hunnam as Jax in SoA (looks a lot like him, swaggers like him, has definite attitude like him), so imagine Jax as a Viking... it was fun.

I thought the exact same thing about that actor reminding me of Charlie Hunnam. The resemblance was uncanny.

The only thing that I am struggling with is accents. Same thing with "The Bible" that proceeded this one... the accents are totally off and it's weird seeing Moses and Vikings and such all with Irish and English accents.

Oh joy! Both of the first episodes are available at IMDb for a while *happy dancing*

Re: Vikings on History Channel

Accent is the one area I choose to suspend disbelief, which doesn't come easy to me. I figure as long as they don't have the same accent as me, and I can understand it clearly enough, I'm good to go. They all spoke different languages anyway, who can really say what they'd sound like. So, I'm good with Irish Vikings and English Romans. lol

As for Vikings the tv show, overall I liked it. I'm glad there seems to be a really cool story to tell as opposed to just brutish barbarians bashing people on the head, which hopefully will be a part of every episode. I'm looking forward to seeing where the vision of our lead barbarian takes us.

My one problem with the premier was that it seemed rushed, as though it had to hurry up and develop its characters and establish conflict. It was immediately plain to me that there was more beneath the surface to all of these characters. It wasn't necessary to force it on me. I would have preferred more subtlety in that regard.

I'm also finding it a little bit difficult to favor any of them knowing they're all just a bunch of thugs and thieves, but I can get over that if there's enough bloodshed.

Sepinwall likes it. Here's his review: http://www.hitfix.com/whats-alan-wat...oody-good-time

I had to laugh partway through when he also commented on the similarity to Charlie Hunnam. He also did not see it as anything detrimental, but a potentially positive thing.

I wonder just how "romanticized" this portrayal will end up
being.

Re: Vikings on History Channel

I enjoyed the first episode, and it's not on ABC, so I will continue watching. It also has a second showing on Wednesday after Duck Dynasty, another plus! Vikings and Red Necks back to back, what's not to love?

Throw in Honey Boo Boo and you've got yourself a guaranteed winning trifecta right there!

Re: Vikings on History Channel

I'm still liking this show despite it's flaws. I think I'm most looking forward to their defeat.
