Really good episode.

One of those episodes with a dying child. The difference, this child looked like Shaun's brother, Steve. This likeness was also recognized by Dr. Glassman.

We also had an older man with several lesions throughout his body. These lesions cause episodes that could cause death if left untreated.

Re: The Good Doctor - ABC Monday

Caught this last night and it really isn't for me.

I remember watching ER and I'd get so nervous watching all the hospital medical events that I had to stop watching the show. Luckily The Good Doctor is not that intense. A nicely written episode, but coming in about 3 shows behind I feel that I am lost as to the inner workings of the staff.

Dr (Freddie Highmore)'s character seemed odd. While I could see how a "savant" could have some exceptional qualities, it just didn't seem realistically portrayed. Having worked both in a hospital (my pre kids job) and with autistic kids in the classroom, this seemed so very far fetched. With all those requirements of character, the good doctor needs to be more tightly written.

I thought this was a very good episode.

We probably have one of these medical emergencies on every medical-drama. Bus turns over on a wet highway, with 20+ trauma patients.

Hill Harper's character made an observation in the Pilot episode that I've come to recognize in every episode thus far. Can Dr. Shaun Murphy show compassion to a grieving family when it's necessary. His autism seems to keep him from doing that.

9MM, I've been curious about this since the beginning of the series.

Is it possible for an autistic person, who has these "savant" qualities work in this type of environment? I wouldn't want to limit anyone's possibilities, but is this more for television than for the real world?

I doing research for this post, I found out the series isn't based on a true story. It was brought to the Producers by none other than Daniel Dae Kim, from Lost fame.

Its actually a Korean series, that's been adapted for American television. Again, I haven't found any articles that speak to the possibility of a "Dr. Shaun Murphy".

Interesting and I appreciate your research.
There are some really high functioning people with Autism, and possibly some folks with it that we don't even know.

I've come to realize that if someone seems odd, then they most likely have some mental health issue of some sort. No one wants to be different than everyone else. We all want to fit in.

Interesting that it was a Korean series adapted for American tv, and that Daniel Dae Kim promoted it.

Re: The Good Doctor - ABC Monday

Shaun met his first autistic person. Not sure why that was so astounding to me.

It was a young autistic patient.

What was really strange, the parents of the boy thought Shaun was so inspirational, yet didn't want him to be a part of the surgical team.
