Re: The Official Baseball Thread

Best World Series that I can remember.

And that includes 2004.
The WS series was a flat tire that year.
The ending was easily the best in my lifetime, but the ALCS was SO good that in retrospect, the 2004 WS felt more like Harry Potter bringing his kid to Platform 9 3/4. Just kind of "Meh."

I have no horse in this WS and I'm GLUED to it.
I'm going to miss the start tonight due to Survivor, but the DVR will have to catch anything else.
I hope there are at least 12 lead changes before we go to extra innings.
Make it so, baseball gods.
Make it so.

Re: The Official Baseball Thread

I'm curious about the ratings on this Series, especially how it's faring outside Texas and Southern California. If you recall, a few years back the Giants and Angels played a great one, lots of action, but nobody watched it because it was on the West Coast.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Think I have mentioned this before, I started school in the L.A. area. Dad was in the Navy, in Long Beach, we lived in San Pedro. In '74 I was 4th grade and discovered baseball. Played Little League, listened to Vin Scully on a transistor radio under my pillow after i had gone to bed, good times. That was the first year of the great '70s infield, Ron Cey, Bill Russell, Davey Lopes, Steve Garvey, plus Steve Yeager was behind the plate and stayed there until he was replaced by Mike Scioscia in the early '80s. Dodgers beat the Pirates in the NLCS, lost to the A's in 5 but all the games were close.
In '75 the Big "D" and I don't mean Dallas, mom moved us back home, I watched the Mariners and Seahawks come into existence. In baseball the Mariners are MY team, no two ways, but there's still a tiny bit of Dodger Blue in there. Enough that I like to see the team successful, enough that I am pulling for them to win this.
Here's a blurb from this mornings Deadline Hollywood.
Deadline Hollywood
Extremely steady with last yearís Game 6 where the Chicago Cubs beat the Cleveland Indians and forced a Game 7, last nightís Dodgers winning Game 6 snared 22.2 million viewers for Fox. Thatís a dip of 5% from last year to hit home plate as the second most watched Game 6 since 2009.
Here's the complete article...
I know I said I wasn't going to cry.
ETA: I'm going to try and watch Game #7.
Re: The Official Baseball Thread
Wow. Congrats to the Astros and their fans on one of the greatest world championships that baseball has ever seen.
soup, your local guy Springer is bringing home the WS MVP!
The Dodgers are hurting, i'm sure, but really have no reason to hang their heads. They played hard all the way and earned every inch they got.
Not in the least bit, Mr Mo.
Yeah, they've been expected to get to this point several times over the last three years, but never made it. Pushing the series to a game #7, was something baseball needed, but it was also needed by the fans of Los Angeles.
Yeah, we've gotten the Rams back, but that's a work in progress. I'm hoping the Dodgers will be in this position over the next couple of years.
Re: The Official Baseball Thread
Kershaw was on fire. His pitching style kills me tho, it's like a two-step - probly good for messing up the batter.
Re: The Official Baseball Thread
That double leg kick out of the wind is strange looking for sure, and i'm sure it throws off more than a few batters. His delivery out of the stretch is more conventional, but there's still something a little odd about it, almost like a side-step.
Re: The Official Baseball Thread
Great season and Series win by the 'Stros. Congrats to a well-deserved champion.
When the leagues realigned a few years ago, went to three 5-team divisions in each, Houston came over from the NL Central, They were about the worst team in baseball at the time. Even worse than the Mariners who were still laboring under the excessive baggage of Bavasi's tenure as GM with the inept Zdiurencek having succeeded him. They suddenly got good, for the last four seasons or so they have been the class of the AL West, but I don't know how much longer their window has open. This year went from being a good team to a great team, picking up Verlander down the stretch was the clincher.
