I know but if I mention what we know as obvious, maybe it will help the others.

That's how much I care.

On the first day of prison, you are suppose to attack to biggest and meanest inmate. I believe you are suppose to bash their skull in.

Vlad the Impailer got his name by killing his enemy's troops, then cutting off their heads and placing them on the ends of poles on either side of the road leading to his castle.

I am not sure of either of these helps in your situation.

Then there is this:

I worked with someone who had a nighttime job extracting money from people who owed it to other people. The other people were not the kinds of people you would want to owe money to. They were not a bank.

So this person was named Vito. I kid you not. Vito. He had no neck. He was build like a linebacker and was very imposing. People, that were very poor payers of loans, would see him for a moment and suddenly remember they owed other people money and that they needed to pay now. I watched one person who claimed poverty suddenly throw wads of cash at Vito's feet. I asked Vito how he accomplished this with just one look. Vito was a very thoughtful and humorous person. He looked at this as an opportunity to teach me something.

He asked me to give him my meanest look. I did. He laughed very deeply. He asked me to try again. He laughed even harder. Then asked me what I thought in my mind when I was giving that look. I said "nothing". He said that was the problem. He told me when he gave a look he would picture in his mind "putting a metal pipe in their head" and that made his look work. I promised I would try this. I have to tell you, it does work. I have never quite worked out what Vito meant about "putting the pipe IN their head" Did this mean surgically implanting a pipe inside the cranium or just hitting them with said pipe. I can tell you not to dwell on that, because it destroys the effect. I usually go with the thought of forcibly inserting the pipe straight into the skull. I figure that produces the scariest look.

Anyway, I doubt any of that helps.

I don't really dwell on the visual because I know exactly what to imagine.

I hope we understand one another.

That actually helps a lot.

It also explains why sometimes my students ignore my "Settle Down" look, and sometimes looking at them makes them instantly shut up and start working.

The latter occasions, I am considering beating their brains out, with a whiteboard eraser.

It would take a long time, but I think I could make it work.

"The world according to Vito" would be a wildly popular book. You should hear his thoughts on politics, football, and fat girls. He likes number two and three a lot and has some interesting ideas about government and the judicial system.
