Just remember, under no circumstances should you sing, hum, or whistle any tune from the movie.

They did NOT climb over the Alps to Switzerland. They took a train to Italy, not really on the run, and then a boat to America.

They bought a farm in Vermont and eventually opened a lodge, which is where I am.
Yes... it's called "movie magic". There are other inconsistencies with truth and accuracy, but hoping a train and leisurely meandering away isn't very exciting.

See?? There are already graves involved. It's perfect.

Do the hills also have eyes? Might be a great idea for the Rocky Horror version of "The Sound of Music".

I tried to control myself.

That would be awesome. What a pitch. "Rocky Horror meets Sound of Music".

Re: What's New/The hills are alive...

So I'm back from my snowshoe adventure here on the von Trapp property. It was pretty fascinating, actually.

But first, I should state that when I saw a guided snowshoe tour offered, and I signed up, I was picturing those paddle-shaped wooden things woven with sinew or some hide I KNOW there are modern snowshoes, but for whatever reason, the image my mind expected were the primitive ones.

It was just myself and another woman and Bob the tour guide, which was nice. I learned a little more about trees of Vermont than I needed to know. But overall, thumbs up.

We saw deer and a raven (I almost made a GoT joke, but I decided wrong crowd).

We hiked up to the Chapel, which is a small stone structure that the 4th von Trapp son built, by himself, over 4 years. It's interesting because he built it after serving in WWII, fighting for America, against the regime he fled and possibly against his own countryman.

During a battle, he thought he would not survive, but he prayed and promised he'd built the chapel if he did. So, he lugged all those stones up that hill and refused to let anyone help.

Have fun cat.

I missed the conversation about the terrible events in florida. I was on a media break this weekend due to the terrible weather we had over the weekend. Sun is out today and my internet is restored.

I think that we have had a change in the past 25 years in that we have a greater fantasy of revenge then we did back then. I remember a movie called "walking tall" which was about a man who got revenge on a whole bar full of men. He did it with a baseball bat. In recent years, I have lost count of how many films were centered on a single, yet highly capable and underestimated man, gets revenge by using assault weapons, handguns, and explosions. I have to wonder if that has had a serious effect on the psyche of our culture. Its not that I think it has caused the problem, but it certainly supports it. How often do we learn that the attacker felt he was "wronged" by those around him justifying his insane actions?

Re: What's New/The hills are alive...

We've also had a deterioration of the family with many of these young men who go on shooting rampages coming from unstable households with no fathers.

There are many factors behind this violence, but that is one of them. Not all boys without their fathers around will grow up to be maladjusted, but many do. Women are more than capable of raising kids by themselves, but boys need strong male role models.
