The Hawkins family buy a robot servant called a Synth in the opener of this series based on a Swedish sci-fi drama. They soon begin to suspect, however, that they may be in danger from this highly-developed machine and the man in search of her.
William Hurt is definitely a reason to watch this. I still remember him in, Body Heat. Him and Kathleen Turner.
I understand. I loved him in Altered States.
In watching the premiere, you didn't get one of those "machines taking over the world" thingys? You know, like Terminator?
Not yet. There was one scientist who was working on taking the synths further than just machine. Seems few became self aware however I could see them revolting, selectively, if they are abused. I didn't get a Terminator vibe.

I really enjoyed the premiere. William Hurt was fabulous. I saw him on Tavis Smiley about a week ago and he talked about the show. I will watch all 8 episodes and hope it gets renewed.
Kinda had an I, Robot, AI vibe.
Got a chance to watch the premiere, and it was pretty good. Although, I'll definitely have to get MissM to translate the British accents. There were several instances of dialog that I had no idea what they were saying.
So, there are apparently Synth's that have either evolved or were upgraded to have emotions. That's what I got from that "five weeks earlier" scene. Plus, the young guy is going around trying save all of the Synth's that have this evolved status.
Dew, I also got a very big I, Robot and AI vibe. There was one scene where there were smashed cars piled on top of one another 4 deep. It reminded me of the scene in the box-car graveyard from I, Robot.
Also, TPTB apparently released the first three episodes at one time, so I'm going to try and watch those before the next episode is released to the public.
