Re: The Orville - Fox Sunday

There were some nice scenes in this episode. In both cases, they were funny.

Although, having humans apart of a zoo has been done before, in both The Twilight Zone and Star Trek, the ending of this scenario was hilarious. The aliens were so engrossed with out "Reality Television" they'd let "real" humans go just so they could watch this type of tv.

The Kardashians (spl), The Bachelor, and my favorite, The Real Housewives of "wherever", had me in stitches.

Oh, and the idea, it's okay for a "white" guy to go to Compton if a "black" guy says it's okay. I'm still laughing about that one.

Haven't seen this yet, but are we talking "Historical Documents" in Galaxy Quest? Sounds like Reality TV fits the bill as well as Gilligan's Island.

Hodge... if you're still laughing about that one, you need to get out more often.

This episode was marginally better than the last... a slim margin.

I still think Fox is trying to mix Trek and Firefly with results being tepid at best.

The reality TV ending was at least mildly amusing. That's a start I guess.

I actually experienced this exact thing when I was about 15-17.

I was invited to play basketball in Compton by a black-guy who came to my area to play one weekend.

I took him up on it, and the invitation was exactly like that.

ETA: I also liked the idea of the crew member whose race only produce male offspring. Seeing him sit on that egg was priceless. Then, to find out he'd given birth to a female.

Guess I'm somewhere between Hodge and Warty on this one.
While it certainly has it's moments, it could stand to be funnier.
To be fair, I'm not the biggest MacFarlane fan.

Best line of the episode occurred in the first scene. "I want eggs now." Gave me quite the chuckle. Unfortunately, 'quite the chuckle' occurring only once in the first two episodes is not inspiring enough for me to continue watching this drivel.

Hopefully I'll be able to recall this show on trivia night some day.

I finally caught up with the first two episodes.

The first, the pilot, was fine, nothing spectacular, just a setting up of characters. It was reminicent of the original Star Trek series to me. It was so reminicent of that series from the musical score, to the bridge set up, costuming, etc. that I wondered how in the heck did Seth McFarlane got the ok to do so.
He has a lot of dead pan jokes that could have been missed (I think I missed them)as there were a lot less jokes than I anticipated. Although the initial alien in bed and the blue squirting and subsequent sound did make me LOL. Then when Capt Mercer ran through the blobby alien, that was funny, too.

The second episode was more interesting to me and my husband recognized it right away as a take on an old Twilight Zone episode. The way the interim captain, Alara (Blana ha ha) handled her experience was interestingly realistic to me. In fact, other aspects of the show seemed sorta realistic. The one guy (he's from a single sex race) Lt Bortus telling his captain that he laid an egg, rotfl, and the captain wanting to know if it was a bad joke he told to the part where the helmsman wanting to know how he did it, to the hilarious part of him sitting naked on the egg while Alara walks in unexpectedly. This was nicely written and gave some good laughs. I identified with each event the same way.

I looked the show up on Wiki and it did not get a good first rating from Rotten Tomatoes. One critic called it a "blatant rip off of other shows". It was supposed to originally be a live action show and Seth McF said he's wanted to do a show like this for a long time.

I'll continue to watch it.
