Re: College Football

Ahh, Big East football. UCONN upsets Pitt in a hard-nosed game. Jordan Todman ran all over the Panthers to be the first 100+ yard runner against them this season (222). Of course, their QB, Frazier, only threw for 100. Guess you don't need to throw when you're running like that.

God, they need TCU in that conference. But how, then, is it the "Big East?"

Re: College Football

It's very hard to watch Big East football in general from here on the west and think that conference deserves an automatic spot in the BCS every year while we have teams like Boise State, TCU, Utah, BYU, Hawaii, etc.. that don't get one.

It's getting better, but it's still woefully not fair.

But I did enjoy the UConn-Pitt game last night (just wish it had been hoops)

That likely won't be pretty this year. UCONN is young and raw.

Back to football: UCONN has had some rough games, but they did beat S Carolina last year. Beating Pitt isn't too shabby, we'll see how W Virginia ends up. Pitt's loss to Utah isn't looking so bad right about now (stole that from last night's announcing team).

Re: College Football

I'm not saying the Big East is BAD - it's just been quite a while since it's top teams looked anywhere close to as good as the best teams that are not in the BCS conferences.

(and in hoops UConn won't likely be AS good as Pitt, but Kemba and some nice young talent will be able to hang with them - Pitt never puts anyone with any talent away and is very vulnerable when not at home)

Re: College Football

Funny thing is, I will agree with you more on your downgrade of the Big East in football than I will with your compliment of UCONN hoops.

Walker is nice, and they have some exciting frosh. Key will be the play of Oriakhi and Coombs-McDaniel. Even have an unheralded frosh Olender who is actually from Storrs. Everyone thought he was one of those token in-state scholarships, but the kid can apparently board, and post.

Re: College Football

It's only the first quarter but I have not seen anyone in many, many years look as dominating as Alabama does over Auburn right now. Wow.

Lots of fans of Boise State and TCU getting very excited (as BCS officials wetting themselves)

Re: College Football

And on the fringe other side of the BCS bowls, WV beats up Pitt this morning and puts UConn squarely in the driver's seat to win the Big East and get the right to get pummelled in a huge bowl game. (that's for you soup!)
