First of all, Map, you must've needed a sandblaster!

Secondly, if any of you are interested, D&D was bought as part of TSR by Wizards of the Coast (who made their name in Magic: The Gathering) circa 15 years ago. D&D 3, 3.5, 4, and 5 have all been WotC developments.

WotC has now owned by HASBRO for almost 10 years, and although the purchase included a LOT of concessions regarding autonomy in HR and content decision, recent years have brought increasing pressure from HASBRO to produce a product to compete in the emerging head-to-head app market. Wizards has been working for a couple years now to develop a version of M:TG that could break into that market but nothing yet has made it out of beta.

VERY interesting, to me at least, that they're trying a version of D&D for this market. I have to think it'll be a reasonably stripped down version of the game, with expansion packs available for the varying directions that individual players and/or groups will want to go. The game itself has always been ideal for that kind of model, and even Gary Gygax used that model in every version he created.

I won't personally try this out, but i wish WotC and HASBRO nothing but the best going forward with it. I hope that if it succeeds in the market, they bring out DragonLance expansions. I've been hoping to see M:TG go to the worlds of DragonLance for quite a while now. It wouldn't exactly be a seamless meld, especially if they can't get Weis and/or Hickman involved, but it's definitely possible.

ETA: Dragonlance was originally a TSR product, and there were some really great DL-D&D crossover products that were very successful at the time. Therefore there would be no legal headaches involved in crossing DL and D&D. Also there have been a few very minor D&D/M:TG ... not exactly crossovers, but more like mentions, over the last 15 years.

ETA2: HASBRO also has a pretty good track record of bringing out films, i.e. Transformers and G.I. Joe. With fantasy franchises like Harry Potter, Middle-Earth, and Narnia all either played out or moving very slowly, DragonLance movies would be a great idea, and maybe even M:TG Planeswalker Stories or a D&D reboot.

Tunnels and Trolls, anyone? The Morrow Project? OMG I can't relate the number of hours I squandered playing Traveler. I'd probably still be playing it if I could find a good local gaming group.

OMG or Gamma World, loved me the Gamma World.

Me too.

Last time was in High School. Was DM'ing my brother and friend through an adventure. I had pretty much allowed my brother to get out of hand, and my buddy was progressing pretty well. well, they started arguing about something outside the game and my brother announces "I swing on Sishee (other guy's character name)." After he killed him, I announced "and at that moment, the sun went super-nova."

Good times, good times.

Soup - our fun at Traveler was flying around being a Han Solo type pirate....attacking smaller ships, going down to planets and messing with the local citizens. GREAT GREAT fun seeing how creative we could get with it.

Re: D&D App?

I once DM'd a party of NEs and CEs. That shit was cutthroat. The sheer volume of note-passing that went on was enough to rival the Skype chats in a LTVSurvivor game.

Needless to say, they all died. My world-building style never really favored groups that didn't work together. That theory about shooting your associate in the leg to outrun a bear doesn't work as well in a fantasy land which commonly features crossbows, magical throwing knives, and a wide assortment of debilitating spellcraft - just to pick one out of a hat, sleep can downright deadly in certain circmstances.
