Re: What are you watching?

Last thing I watched was the Ghost In The Shell film, quite a disappointment to be honest. It basically plays like an extended TV episode, only the series (which I still need to finish) is a lot better imo.

Excellent! I've only seen the first dozen or so. Let us know how it progresses.

Wrong thread :P

To contribute: Thinking of restarting Dragon Drive, not certain yet.

Only if the Iowa QB transforms into a robot or tentacled demon halfway through the game.

That was a "game-based" anime, like Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh, wasn't it?

Re: What are you watching?

On episode 24 out of 26 on Claymore, and we'll probably be watching the finale tonight. My review: I want to dislike this show because it's everything that gives anime a bad name (girls in costumes cutting tentacled demons in half; been there, done that). But we are really getting into it for some reason. We're on the edge of our seats, wondering what will happen.

The mythology is solid and interesting, there's a conspiracy (maybe- it's hard to tell), and we really have no idea who will live and who will die.

It's not rocket surgery, but it's worth watching, IMO.

ETA: Did I mention it was violent and gorpy, though....

I think so, but it was a little better than those two. Not by much, and probably for a younger audience anyway. I just feel dirty for having watched most of the episodes and not finishing it, for the sake of completion.

It had dragons in it. That was enough to make me watch it, sadly

Re: What are you watching?

I'm on my second hiatus from Dragon Drive - I have the same problem as Houkou. As I stated way back in the opening post (far out, that was april and I still haven't finished DD) I actually preferred it when it was just a realistic game. The 'game taken way to seriously' thing is pretty cliche and used mainly in more kid-aimed anime, but I think Dragon Drive as a virtual reality game is far more interesting than battling spinning tops or cards that summon 90% static monsters. I'm just not that interested in it now that they're in a real world (a boring medieval type world as opposed to the modern city-based arena of the VR game at that) and they have a cliche quest to go on.

Before I left New Zealand I tried watching Ghost In the Shell again, with my friend who had never seen it. I was hoping I'd enjoy it more the second time around, but I didn't get the chance to find out as my friend talked constantly and then started texting and then MSN-ing some random girl. Thus we didn't get very far through before I ejected the disc and did other things. Houkou, I hope I find the series more interesting than the movie too, as it's on the Sci-Fi channel here in Australia. I watched ep1 online - it was okay. I hope I get more into it as I try to catch up to where they are on TV. Wish that you could switch to japanese subtitled on television though.

I went to the Gold Coast film festival last month, to see The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and attend the Madman anime previews. Thanks to a misprint of the starting time in the paper I didn't get to see the main feature (grr!), but I saw the anime previews - two episodes of Code Geass, one ep of The Wallflower and the start of an ep of Shuffle!
I enjoyed Code Geass, it was very cool, but I'd heard from my friend who has seen the entire show that it turns to crap, thus I don't think I'll seek out further episodes. The opening for The Wallflower had me worried (lots of shirtless prettyboys), but it turned out to be really funny - I might watch more of this one. Shuffle! looked to be your typical harem/romcom (which I am partial to in small doses, though the genre in general has become increasingly ecchi [Kanokon is almost porn] as of late and thus I stay away) - I left partway through it as the viewings started late due to mechnical failure and my family were waiting for me outside. I'd definitely attend these previews if they did it again next year, it was fun watching anime in a cinema!

Regarding the shows in my opening post:
Bleach: Took a break during my moving process (as I did with everything I was watching), but recently managed to catch up, finish the filler arc and get into the restarted Heuco Mundo chapter (I MISSED YOU!!). I'm up to ep 193 so far - I'd been waiting ages to see Neliel!
Onmyou Taisenki: Out of the shows I've finished since my original post, this was the one I enjoyed the most. You just need to get past the first bunch of episodes to enjoy this one - once you're there and you're attached to the characters and versed in the mythology and terminology it stays consistently enjoyable.
Shana II: Very good if you liked the first season (I did), though it's another that's slow to start. Intense last few episodes - I will definitely be there for season 3.
Dragon Drive: On a break but want to finish it.
Ghost Hound: DIdn't end the way I expected and it moved away from a lot of what I liked from earlier episodes, but a very good show that I still recommend to any LOST fan.
Naruto: Dropped it after 13 episodes, tried to get back into it here in Australia through Cartoon Network's weekend marathons, and found it incredibly boring. Nothing happens and the characters are flat. Why is this so popular? Try Bleach, Naruto fans - you'll never go back.

As for what I'm currently watching - not much. Bleach (it's so good to be back!). Watching GitS Stand Alone Complex and soon the shows that follow it on the Sci-Fi channel (Black Lagoon and Blood Plus) to see if I like them.

I'm also watching Powerpuff Girls Z - I'm a 24-year old male, yet I've always loved the original american PPG. When PPGZ was unveiled last year I was put off by the divergence from the hard-hitting physical fights of the american PPG, but attracted to the cute anime redesigns of the characters. I never found a place to view PPGZ online, but it's on TV here in Australia - and I'm loving it! I'd long known it was not the same as the original in terms of battle so I came into it with no expectation for that, and thus am very pleased with what this reinterpretation does have to offer. It's so bright and colorful and cute! I hated the 'Princess' character (a spoiled brat villain) in the original, but she's really cool here. And I've fallen in love all over again with our leading heroines. Love it!

And now to prove I'm still a red-blooded male I'm off to beat the crap out of things in an ultraviolent video game.
