I'll eat practically anything. Except calamari.

Done properly, calimari is a true delicacy. Unfortunately, it's nearly impossible to get right and almost all restaurants, even "authentic italian" restaurants, don't even try; they buy prebreaded frozen dreck and expect the sauce to make up for eating rubber bands.

Oh so that's what it tastes like.
Do you remember doing that as a child? I did and it was sorta fun.
Then there were those waxy lips so sweet and fun, then chewy and alright if you didn't swallow.
Erm, I hope I'm not getting x-rated.

Re: Woody's: One anti-inflammatory from blowing up!

There's a place near me that makes DELICIOUS fried calamari. The breading is really light and the sauce is delicious. They also make hibiscus margaritas and they are the bomb diggity.

Last night I met my friend of 37 years for dinner/drinks at a tapas bar. I had 2 delicious mojitos, sea bass, and mushroom risotto. This morning I woke up and my stomach was NOT happy. I don't know what it was. I've eaten there a few times and never had any issues.

Re: Woody's: One anti-inflammatory from blowing up!

Mrs. Mo and i are blessed to live about a tenth of a mile from one of only two restaurants that i know of in upstate NY that make a proper fried calimari. We order it as an appetizer almost every time we go there. When fresh and cooked properly, it melts in your mouth, not gets stuck in your teeth.

ETA: And YES Freckly2, the breading should be light, almost tempura style.

Re: Woody's: One anti-inflammatory from blowing up!

Freckels, new thread change should be "bomb diggity calamari - hard fried

I also was out with friends last night, new friends. Went to another city and did some "urban sketching" of the city streets and of folks just hanging out. I saw a woman catch a catfish out of the city pond. I do hope she threw it back in, but some folks just love catfish. It's alright if dipped in the right batter, however I'm not sure the city pond fish would ever be right no matter what the batter was.
