Records of the missing ships/aircraft and oddities with the devils triangles were researched by high members and cults in society, ie: Hansos ancestors.


Hanso eventually aquired the rights and figured out on how to get to the island. *
(during the window. it deals with the Equinox, AN EPOCH.)

He formed Dharma to enlist scientists in the fields he thought would be useful for his plans.


Using the islands odd magnetic qualities and underwater thermal vents,
they created Geothermal powered ElectroMagnetic Fields to stabilize the window to allow further,
more conveinient island base upgrading.

Geothermal energy utilizes steam trapped in the earth. A geothermal power plant is similar to a steam power plant. A deep well is drilled and steam comes out, goes through a heat exchanger, and then spins a turbine. Electric power plants driven by geothermal energy provide over 44 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity worldwide per year. The U.S. in 2000 produced .32 quadrillion BTUs from geothermal power.


And now Dharma use's this power source to keep the island in some controlled state of phase".
Hidden from the world, but not Hanso or Dharma.





The sickness.

it is EMF related, UV radiation seems to have an affect of our others as they only come out at night.
and seem to be burned.




Monster/ Security system.

I for one think the monster may be motes the size of iron-filings, suspended and controlled using an array of magnetic fields,
(using the islands odd properties as a bonus) powered by the geothermal reactor...


what the motes are attached to may be the cause of all the sh-t.*

The islet may be outside of the main islands "phase", perhaps only the dark territory is EMF heavy, and the islet was a safe, very nearby location.

I too, have not let go of the vortices idea. I think Kiwipat had another thread on this... "12 vortices"? I'm glad you are bringing it up again and updating parts to season 2.

Very interesting to see someone willing to fill in the blanks and incorporate the various theories.

I particularly agree with your notion that there are older forces also at work here, not just Hanso & DHARMA.

....and yes I have been big on the Vile Vortices theory - as linked by yourself under the "Bermuda Triangle thread".

Two things you may want to consider:

(1) I like the idea that the vortices may be EM sensitive areas that are triggered or opened by "geomagnetic storms". Such storms occur where charged particles from the sun (ie solar wind ejected via solar flares) hit the earth. They tend to occur most frequently in the equinox months of March/April and September/ October. They are responsible of all sorts of electrical inference on earth, including the northern & southern lights. Also such solar ejections apparently happen in cycles. Currently we are in Solar Cycle 23

(2) although TPTB seem to have discounted it - I really like the idea of nanobots ie that the smokey monster is a "nanoswarm". Perhaps the islands strange EMF is keeping it prisoner on the island? Perhaps it is a bio-mechanical hybrid, carrying the sickness in the form of a virus that infects people if the swarm enters their bodies??

the writers discounted nano-bot theories by saying something like

Why does the Black Rock rest so far inland? Was that beause of the portal?

that's my bet dweisspt.
The black rock would have hit waves and turbulance while crossing into a "fog"
(methane gases rising from more underwater vents, as all the vortices will have. minus the one over nigeria.
odd, what could be the attractor in the landmass ? more iron deposits ?)
now to research : satelitte geographic iron ore deposit imaging ?

once any ship enters this fog, they are actually entering a bubble-like funnel.
As the methane gases rise from the ocean floor vents, they expand in size.
By the time the gas bubbles reach the surface, they have expanded to a point where the surface of the water cannot keep the boat afloat, and it drops...


the next thing they knew, they were shipwrecked far inland.

although the portal scene would be odd to show as a flashback.

I wanted to add some security system ideas here while I have them fresh in mind..



the system is powered by the islands geothermal hook ups to the hot underwater vents still erupting at the base of the island.

this system which has a central electromagnetic turbine, taps into the islands dark territory* & creates a very powerful EMF.


Together with the Dharma satelitte (which may pass once every 108 minutes)
the ones in control are able to draw the monster using hundreds of thousands of teeny tiny motes as the material

Plotting out points in 3d space in real time for the motes to be moved to.


This same EMF system is responsible for the uprooting of trees.
The creature" does not move trees, but something called a "potential well" does. (you heard it here first!)

Well, that would explain the location and condition of the ship . My only question woud be, if they survived the jump, why not free the slaves? Maybe they did not survive the crash on the island.
