LOST Theories So you think you know some secrets of the island? Maybe you can explain everything. If it's original and you can back it up, we'd love to hear it.

+ Theory of infinite regression related to Lost, Time, and art, explaining the "?"

****Post Desmond centric episode add on.****

After watching him switch through his meta dimensions, it is clear he is experiencing infinite regression. Time loop? Perhaps. But more importantly, he is SEING himself experiencing each of these events. Deja Vu? Perhaps, but Deja Vu, is not an explanation just a name.
****************************************

This reminds me of the artist painting a picture of the artist painting a picture of a landscape.

The artist says something is missing?

What is it?

The artist painting the picture. So he takes a step back. Regression.

But still something is missing. It is his real self painting the second picture.

So he regresses further and paints a third.

...an artist painting a picture of the artist painting a picture of the artist painting a picture of a landscape.

...and still something is missing until he paints a 4th and a 5th....

...an artist painting a picture of the artist painting a picture of the artist painting a picture of an ...an artist painting a picture of the artist painting a picture of the artist painting a picture of a landscape.

So infinite regression,

you see it is the moment when the artist has regressed to the point of infinity. and becomes part of the landscape he painted and is both the observer and the observed.

but what would he be observing if say he were observing time (LOST)?

you could percieve that time (Lost) is like a freeway with an infinite number of lanes...

all leading from the past to the future although not the same future.

a driver may crash, or a driver may live, by changing lanes he may tell the future...(Ecko/Locke)

Lost can only be observed with an observer with a god like gift of infinite regression.

And thus we have the "?"

Not to mention everyone ends up being someone else when they experience this.

Add to this the old Adam and Eve idea that it is Jack and Kate and the island has a time loop...infinite regression.

Interesting...Sounds alot like "the Holograpic Universe" theory.I think the "MOVIE-world of LOST" is NOT that different from "Our REAL WORLD" when you consider the STRANGE BEHAVIOUR OF ELECTRONS at the QUANTUM-LEVEL (Superposition/Infinite possibleties etc...)....Come to think of it..Our world is even STRANGER!!!

is this the same idea as "scale free" models? you know, like fractals and several networks in biology.

I actually was inspired by some quotes in a song. But doesn't it make sense? The writers are the artists. They have opened up so many lanes all heading to what we think is the same future. The only hope for the show and us is infinite regression, returning to the beginning.

The better logic behind this is what is used in solving crimes. We should be looking at this as if we were detectives. Regressing to the scene of the crime to find clues. What is our crime scene?

-flashbacks
-wrecked plane
-pilot episode
-hatches

Kind of a Mobius strip type of circular logic?

Actually I am on a hiatus from that.

But nonetheless isn't the cigarette found in the Pearl a form of infinite regression? I think the writers are telling us something here.
