Nah, Wolverine!!!

Looks like ole Wolverine is getting his own film! Been rumored for awhile, but here we go! X-Men Origins: Wolverine

I saw THIS article on AICN last week as well regarding this flick.
*WARNING - POTENTIAL PLOT SPOILERS*

Here is some of it:

I read an early draft of this - before a set of serious notes were being implemented. The biggest of which seems to be 'time-frame'. You see, apparently they're talking to Liev Schreiber to play William Stryker - who up until now has been played by Brian Cox. Personally - I prefer Schreiber as a director - more than as an actor... - BUT what that means is that the WOLVERINE story should be taking place at least 25-30 years prior to the events in the X-MEN movie time frame... which would place the film in the late Seventies / Early EIghties? Right? That's if they acknowledge it at all... right?
In the script it was never really seeming to be like that. It was definitely pre-X-MEN, but it didn't seem to be SIGNIFICANTLY before. But then that draft was frankly a bore. Essentially being a Wolverine vs Sabretooth, then Wolverine vs 10,000 Sabretooths - LAME. Word has it that a fairly significant rewrite is being done before it starts shooting. Of course - the Strike means we won't get the rewrite to take Wolverine to Japan and the real story they should be telling. Sigh.
Apparently they're planning to shoot in Australia, New Zealand and New Orleans... Variety hypothesizes that this means GAMBIT - but that's not the case. The New Orleans scene is basically a Mutant Only club scene with a bunch of insignificant Muties.

Wolverine was always one of my favorite X-Men. We'll be seeing this one, for sure.

Got some casting news from CHUD:

CHUD is reporting that Liev Schreiber is playing Victor Creed (AKA Sabretooth) in the Gavin Hood-directed X-Men Origins: Wolverine and not a young Stryker as was previously believed.

The site adds that Michael C. Hall ("Dexter") is instead in talks for the role of Stryker and that they are eyeing Michelle Monaghan for Silverfox.

Leading up to the events of X-Men, "Wolverine" tells the story of Wolverine's epically violent and romantic past, his complex relationship with Victor Creed, and the ominous Weapon X program. Along the way, Wolverine encounters many mutants, both familiar and new, including surprise appearances by several legends of the X-Men universe.

The movie opens in theaters on May 1, 2009.

What I'm most interested in is the other Weapon X characters that are being cited to appear. Well, one in particular...





My life will not be complete without seeing him dragon punch Kitty Pryde on the big screen.

Just read something cool over at superherohype.com - they're filming "Wolverine" in some of the same locations used for LOTR. Check out this blog entry:

Saw Hugh Jackman running thru the woods today in full Wolverine costume. Apparently he is shooting a movie of the same name as the x-men character. New Zealand is doubling as canada. I went on a tour of the National Park where Lord of the Rings was filmed. Many films are made there. Wolverine is just the latest one. So that was the highlight of the day... We were in a van it was much like being at a theme park seeing him. He was outside the window. It was like seeing a lion at the San Diego Zoo. Although Hugh Jackman is mch better looking. But I digress.

So it should be fun to see how many locations we can recognize from LOTR in the "Wolverine" movie.
