LOST Theories So you think you know some secrets of the island? Maybe you can explain everything. If it's original and you can back it up, we'd love to hear it.

Re: Imaginary Time, Imaginary Space and EM Consciousness

I tried to cover sum over histories long ago (in relation to quantum computing and many worlds ideas, probabilty etc), but you have done a VERY good job at it. the term finally applies to LOST in a much easier way to see given the last episode.

nice post.

I just wish I could learn how to do a search properly, "sum" is too short a word to search.

eta.. and people don't think the plot has moved on... ha.
it sure seems like the forum understands a lot more about the show now.

Re: Imaginary Time, Imaginary Space and EM Consciousness

This is SO COOL! Okay, I will calm down a little. There is a lot here that needs to be digested, When I first saw the words "real time" in Daniel's notebook I freaked. I thought, how could anyone, after Einstein, talk about real time. But clearly it is the contrast to "imaginary time," which is not the land of bedtime stories, but a concept in contemporary physics.

Some initial comments: you mention the aether. (I like that spelling better. It distinguishes it from ether, the drug. I had a room mate in college who inhaled ether.) I looked up this guy Lorentz, who is also referenced in Daniel's notes, right? Apparently he had a theory about the aether. This was the hypothesized medium that light moved though. Didn't Einstein first accept this?

Well, I guess that is getting off the track. I will be back to try to do more with this idea of consciousness as an electromagnetic field.

I have read accounts indicating that Einstein never actually abandoned the aether concept, although popularizations of his life and ideas suggest he did. there is a pretty good article about this in one of the Analog issues published in the last 12 months. If you are interested I will go poke around in the bat...., errrr, library and see if I can find it.

Re: Imaginary Time, Imaginary Space and EM Consciousness

I was also thinking about the idea of unstuck in time and unstuck in space being related. The impetus for me was Daniel's chalk board. There was a graph, sort of a bell shaped thing, on an X-Y axis, showing "here" and "there", which I took to be distance (it caught my eye initially because it made me think of the topology issue). Interesting, however, was that there was another graph, nearly identical, but dealing with "now" and "then".

"Kerr" is also a reference to the shape of space-time, albeit as distorted by extreme circumstances.

I also thought about Daniel's focus on a constant. I do not know if it is important or not, but Einstein's classic formulation regarding E and M made use of a constant, that being C, of course. I wonder if Daniel was (is) attempting to define a similar statement relating T and D, through use of a constant?

Re: Imaginary Time, Imaginary Space and EM Consciousness

one quick simple question about the sum over histories..

all that info.. an infinite amount actually, depending on the # of dimensions used, do you agree it would take an insane amount of computing power to store and analyze the history of states etc ?
