An epic adventure about a global cataclysm that brings an end to the world and tells of the heroic struggle of the survivors.

How much would you like to bet that this plot involves the Mayan calendar ending in the year 2012 ? It also sounds somewhat like "'The Stand"...

Amanda Peet has landed the female lead in Roland Emmerich's post-apocalyptic epic "2012."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project revolves around the aftermath of a "global cataclysm" and the survivors who band together. Peet ("Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip") will play the ex-wife of John Cusack's character, a struggling writer working as a limo driver.
Other "2012" stars include Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton, Danny Glover and Oliver Platt.
Emmerich ("The Day After Tomorrow") wrote the script with Harald Kloser and hopes to begin shooting "2012" in July, barring an actors strike. If production stays on schedule, Columbia plans to release the film on July 10, 2009.
Peet, who also appeared with Cusack in "Identity" and "Martian Child," is currently shooting an untitled comedy from Nicole Holofcener. She'll be seen later this summer in "The X-Files: I Want to Believe."
